Judge tells attorneys to prepare for Kylr Yust trial in March or April 2021
During Tuesday's hearing, attorneys presented arguments on possible evidence, including that there may have been a tracking device on Yust's car (this would be prior to Jessica), and whether or not that could be entered into evidence. Also, the defense stated it is considering using testimony from another possible suspect in the case, however, the suspect is in federal prison and attorneys have been unable to interview him.
Prosecutors also requested cell phone records dating back 10 years for the KCPD officer alleged to have a sexual relationship with a witness in the case. Prosecutors said T-Mobile had only produced 2 years of the requested 10 years of evidence.

Detectives are currently trying to find that unspecified evidence. Jere have been claims of an inappropriate sexual relationship between a Kansas City police officer and a witness. Judge Collins did schedule jury selection, which will take place in St. Charles County, for March 29. Jury selection is expected to take a whole week, with jurors to be selected from the St. Louis area.
The prosecution and defense have been going back and forth for months on evidence issues, which is why Collins was not able to set a trial date on Monday.
Overall, both sides say they feel good about tying up these loose ends. Collins said he hopes the evidence issues will be resolved in two weeks and set another hearing for Oct. 19.

Runions (21) (Sept. 8, 2016, Lee’s Summit) – *Kylr Charles Yust (18 in 2007/29/now 30) indicted (3/1/18) & arraigned (6/18/18) on 2 counts of 1st degree & 2 counts of abandonment of a corpse. Plead not guilty. $1M cash only bond; originally charged with burning Jessica’s car. Felony charges for arson dismissed on Oct. 5, 2017.
Trial set to begin 4/5/21 with Jury Selection starting on 3/29/21 thru 4/1/21. Held in Cass County & jurors from St. Charles County.
