Authorities identify body found in Mo. field

HARRISONVILLE, Mo. (AP) - Cass County authorities have identified a body found in a western Missouri field as a man from Nebraska.
A farmer found the body Tuesday in a field near Harrisonville.
Cass County said Friday that the body was that of 29-year-old Luke Schuman of Lincoln, Neb. He was reporting missing from Harrisonville on Jan. 3.
A release from the Cass County sheriff says investigators believe the death is suspicious and a joint investigation will begin on Monday.

Police are searching for a man who has been missing since New Year’s Day.

Luke Schuman, 29, of Lincoln, Nebraska, was last seen in Harrisonville. He had travelled there with a friend, and Luke doesn’t own a vehicle.

He was reported missing on January 3.

Heather said she reported Luke missing on January 3 after not hearing from him since New Year's Eve. He had been in Missouri with a friend. "This was just a play date so to speak with someone he hadn't seen in quite a long time," said Heather.

Luke left home December 28th, and told Heather he planned to be gone just for the night. He extended his trip but the two spoke every day. They chatted early in the afternoon New Year's Eve. Heather said Luke left a voice mail around 10:30 that night and that it sounded like he was at a party.

He told her he'd call back at midnight. He never did.

On April 20, 2010 a farmer found the body of 29 year old Luke Schuman in a field near the area of E. 327th and S. Lone Tree south of Harrisonville. Schuman was reported missing from Harrisonville on January 3.

One year after his disappearance, Cass County Detectives are asking for the public’s help in the 2010 investigation of Schuman’s death. Detectives are close to exhausting all leads.
