Weltig had been shot with his own gun. It was a gun he kept under a box on the counter. He kept it there because he really was afraid of robberies. But what was the chance a robber would come in and somehow end up with Weltig’s gun? That seemed unlikely. Surely, the robber would have had his own weapon.

More likely, it was someone who knew Weltig kept a gun under the box.

The Major Case Squad is searching for a man who may have overheard liquor store owner Steven S. Weltig talk about his fear of being robbed on the eve of his own murder. Weltig, 40, of Oakville, was found dead about 10 a.m. Friday in his store, Ajax Liquors, at 1409 Jeffco Boulevard in Arnold. He had been shot in the head.
