MO - The Shooting of teen Michael Brown *Media, Timelines Maps* No Discussion

Shall we start a thread with discussion as to whether or not McCullough should be indicted for obstruction of justice for providing the Grand Jury with outdated case law?

If state Rep. Karla May got her wish, the committee investigating Gov. Jay Nixon's handling of the situation in Ferguson also would investigate St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch.

"Many St. Louis area residents believe – and there is at least some evidence to suggest – that Mr. McCullo(ch) manipulated the grand jury process from the beginning to ensure that Officer Wilson would not be indicted," May wrote in her letter.

Anybody imagine this would happen?

"CLAYTON • Dorian Johnson, who was walking with Michael Brown Jr. on Aug. 9 when the two were approached by Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson, has filed a lawsuit against the city, Wilson and former police chief Thomas Jackson.
The suit claims that Wilson assaulted Johnson, violated his constitutional rights, and intentionally and negligently inflicted emotional pain during the encounter, in which Wilson shot Brown to death.
.... seeks damages, including punitive, of at least $25,000.... an injunction to prevent the city of Ferguson and its police from engaging in assault, unlawful arrest and excessive use of force.

The city and Jackson were named because they "negligently hired and supervised police officers who violated citizens’ civil rights,” ....

James Knowles III, the mayor of Ferguson, said the city had not yet been served with the suit and had no comment. Jackson, who resigned March 11, also declined, as did Wilson’s attorney, Greg Kloeppel.
Lawyers for Johnson could not be reached. He is represented by lawyers Daniel K. Brown of Clayton and James M. Williams and Inemesit U. O’Boyle of Metairie, La."

The memorial to Michael Brown on Canfield Drive has been removed and will be replaced by a plaque, Mayor James Knowles III and Michael Brown Sr. announced Wednesday.Knowles said the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis will store the stuffed animals and other items that have formed the temporary memorial down the center of Canfield Drive since Aug. 9, when Brown, 18, was shot and killed there by a Ferguson police officer.
Flanked by newly elected Ferguson City Council members Wesley Bell and Ella Jones, Knowles and Brown said the plaque will be part of a new permanent memorial in the area."

Aftermath of Michael Brown shooting & death in Aug 2014 by Ferguson LEO. For those who remember, an update on a vocal streamer, Umar Lee:

Lee said he used no special connection to get hired, but quit driving a cab for a living and applied at a number of places.

"The outspoken cabbie gained notoriety during the Ferguson protests and then went on to insult St. Louis and minimize its leaders during a short-lived run for mayor.
Now, it appears Lee works for the city he derided, writing parking tickets for Treasurer Tishaura Jones, a politician he said couldn't fix the city's problems...
Lee said he used no special connection to get hired, but had quit driving a cab for a living and applied at a number of places."

New Ferguson Video Adds Wrinkle to Michael Brown Case
MARCH 11, 2017
[…]
But a second, previously unreported video from that same convenience store included in a new documentary is raising new questions about what happened in the hours before the shooting on Aug. 9, 2014.
The footage shows Mr. Brown entering the store, Ferguson Market and Liquor, shortly after 1 a.m. on the day he died. He approaches the counter, hands over an item that appears to be a small bag and takes a shopping sack filled with cigarillos. Mr. Brown is shown walking toward the door with the sack, then turning around and handing the cigarillos back across the counter before exiting.

The film "Stranger Fruit" re MB shooting & aftermath was screened Saturday at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin TX. NYT link below has 2:32 min vid clip (I believe from movie; I haven't seen yet.)

First: St Louis metro coverage, w bbm & sbm below.

"Filmmaker Jason Pollock argues that Brown first exchanged a small amount of marijuana with store clerks for two boxes of cigarillos in his early morning visit that day...
At the last second before leaving the store, Brown gave the cigarillos back to the store clerks who put them behind the counter, according to the clip. The documentary asserts that Brown left the merchandise at the store to retrieve at a later point. After Brown was shot by then- Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson later that day near Canfield Green Apartments, police released video of Brown strong arming his way out of the same store with cigarillos. His encounter with Wilson soon followed...
“Mike did not rob the store,” says the film narrator.
“It was a misunderstanding,” Brown’s mother, Lezley McSpadden, adds."

"Jason Pollock, a documentary filmmaker who acquired the new tape, says the footage challenges the police narrative that Mr. Brown committed a strong-armed robbery when he returned to the store around noon that day. Instead, Mr. Pollock believes that the new video shows Mr. Brown giving a small bag of marijuana to store employees and receiving cigarillos in return as part of a negotiated deal. Mr. Pollock said Mr. Brown left the cigarillos behind the counter for safekeeping....."
