On CNN they are saying multi vortex. Heavy damage!

oh carp, I hope that is not the storm I see headed my direction as I type. Did this just happen?

ty for the heads up. gonna keep my eye on radar and the other on CNN

God help those people. Prayers for all who were involved in this devastation. This looks really bad.

I'm about 20 miles away. This storm system hooked just by
my little NE OK town and watching these live shots on Weather Channel,
it's incredible. Nothing left standing in the neighborhood by St. John's
Hospital, and it took a hellish hit. http://twitpic.com/51apfz
The guy on WC's live coverage said he's observed multiple fatalities.

this is just total devastation. :(

just extended out the radar to a larger view and this is classic tornadic squall line, central states are in for some rocky weather tonight. Be safe everyone.

They said it was wrapped in rain and hail, meaning it was disguised, people didn't know it was coming.

They said it stripped bark from trees, meaning, winds in excess of 150 mph.

Nails with shingles all over the place.

Joplin High School has been severely damaged. The graduation was today, but was held at Missouri Southern.

St. John's hospital was also hit hard by the tornado. One resident living nearly 45-miles away from the hospital says his yard is now full of debris from the hospital-- medical supplies and x-rays.

Officials say the hospital is severely damaged. Chunks of the building were taken out and windows were blown out.

Eastbound and westbound I-44 is closed at mile marker 18 near Joplin due to overturned tractor trailers during severe weather.

John Kurtz, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Springfield, said that the NWS will not be able to determine the size of the tornado that struck Joplin until Monday morning when they dispatch a damage survey team.

Joplin MO is a city of about 50,000, btw. For everyone who grew up in the KS-MO-OK area, it was always the weekend "town to go to" as it has a large mall, movie theaters, all the stuff little towns don't.

Nursing home hit very badly, SAR happening now. Urgent medical supplies requested.

reporting a good portion of Joplin destroyed. I hope that is not accurate. No one saw it coming.

Can anyone let me know if the animal shelter is ok??
Several of my rescue dogs came from that shelter and came here on transports :( :(

miles wide path of damage that extends for miles

Fervent prayers for everyone hit by tornadoes today, especially in Joplin, in Jesus' Name, amen!

hospital badly damaged. Interviewing fellows who helped with evacuating patients there

hasn't sunk in for residents yet. Talking about how it is still sureal

I am seeing 24 dead so far in Joplin area - our media here in Tulsa has been all over the story understandably tonight

no power in Joplin. Dark will hamper the efforts at SAR
