Human remains found near woods in Gulfport
Man walking his dogs found bones Wednesday
By ROBIN FITZGERALD - firstname.lastname@example.org
GULFPORT -- Examination of bones found near woods off 13th Avenue on Wednesday afternoon has determined they are the remains of a man who was 6 feet tall and 35 to 55 years old, Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said Thursday.
Authorities at first believed the bones were probably animal remains, but Hargrove said further examination has confirmed they are human remains.
The bones were found south of the intersection of 13th Avenue and 32nd Street by a man who was walking his dogs.
The coroner’s office and Gulfport police were notified at 1:16 p.m.
Hargrove said several bones were collected for further examination by Dr. Paul McGarry, the forensic pathologist who performs South Mississippi’s autopsies.
McGarry met police and members of the coroner’s office at the scene Thursday to recover additional remains and any possible evidence, Hargrove said.
McGarry will conduct a more-thorough investigation, which could give investigators a better idea of the time and possible cause of death, Hargrove said.
Unexplained deaths are typically investigated as homicides until investigators rule out foul play.
Probably jumping the gun a bit here going only on age, height, and location of remains, but this gentlemen was last known alive in 2006 32 miles west of the UID's location.

5'10", was 53 years old when he went missing.
I noticed that some of the comments were that maybe this is someone still missing after Hurricane Katrina?
I noticed someone in the comment field felt this could be Glen Fayard as well. Should I contact the case manager about this UID?
It wouldn't hurt. But since others have noted him as a possible, the authorities probably already have him on their short-list.
That was my first thought, Kimster. There are still so many missing.
That was my first thought.
Here's a strange case of a man, Jack Fisher, who disappeared in 1994. His last know location was Long Beach, MS. There are no vital statistics listed for him, but he was probably in his 30's. He was originally from Dunedin, FL but moved to Long Beach for a job manufacturing mobile homes.
On January 6, 1990, Jack's brother Richard was supposed to be sentenced in Pinellas County, FL for sexually abusing a minor. He absconded, and in 1991 LE searched Jack's house in Long Beach, MS but Richard wasn't there.
In 1994, Jack went missing from Long Beach. He'd told his parents he would be leaving Mississippi for Missouri to help flood victims, but no one knows if he did leave.
At some point, Richard returned to Florida and used Jack's SS number to obtain a driver's license. While on the lam, he worked and raised three children. He settled in Ocala, FL and later moved to Dunedin, FL in Pinellas County where he was wanted for the 1988 crime. In 2005, LE received an anonymous tip, and Richard Fisher was arrested and is now serving a 35 year sentence.
After Jack was reported missing, LE investigated Richard's possible involvement and determined he was not a suspect. Richard was 46 in 2005, so at the time of Jack's disappearance he would've been about 35. Richard likely would've been around the same age, and looking at his photo, I'd say he was older tha 35.
Here's a map that shows the distance between Long Beach, MS and the Gulfport location where the remains were found the other day. This is probably a long shot, but it's an interesting case, and based on the few details we have about the remains so far, it's a possibility.

Re: According to this article from August 2011, Harrison County had only nine Katrina missing persons on record, three presumed dead.
Jack Fisher, Doe Network Case File 1981DMMS
Jack Fisher went missing in Mississippi in 1994 and has never been found.
He vanished while working in the mobile home business in Mississippi. Jack was a U.S. Army veteran. In late July 1994, Jack told his parents he was heading out of state, perhaps to Missouri, to help victims of a flood. The family filed a missing persons report in Mississippi, but Jack has never been heard from again.
Jack previously lived in Dundedin, Florida.
His brother, a fugitive, assumed his Jack's identity while on the run. He was arrested in 2006 and is not considered a suspect in Jack's disappearance.

Wow, strange story. Im from Dunedin! It's a small town, everyone knows everyone type of town. Wonder if they where alumni? Ive never heard of any of this before now.
Anyways, I find it strange that Richard was using Jacks ss# after he disappeared. Shady to me.
Thanks for the map, Long Beach is really close on there to where the remains where found. Good find!
Edit-Found this story
Intellus shows Jacks current age as 54 if you search Dunedin.
The article says he was 46 in 2005, so one source is off by a few years. Either way, it's an indication that Jack would be in the 35-55 year old range which makes him a possible match, although it's very little to go on.
I'm curious why there is no information on Jack in the Doe Network or any other articles I've read.

I wonder if this his could be Shane Fell. He's been missing from Marrero, LA, across the Mississippi River from New Orleans, since June. He was 36 at the time, and 6'2".
