MOSS POINT, Miss. -- A homicide investigation is underway in Moss Point after a body was found on Sunday, Deputy Chief Jim Roe said.
According to Roe, officers responded to a call after citizens discovered a body in a wooded area on Molden Street. When officers arrived on the scene, the found what Roe described as “human remains.”
The remains were collected and were sent to the state crime lab for autopsy.
There has been speculation regarding the body and who it may be, but according to Roe, the department will let the state crime lab do its job.
“We don’t know who and it wouldn’t be right for anyone’s family for us to speculate who it may or may not be, so the medical examiner’s office will do their job and let us know once their investigation is completed,” Roe said.
Police are working the case as a homicide according to Roe.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Moss Point Police Department at 228-475-1711, Crime Stoppers at 800-787-5898 or visit the Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers website at mscoastcrimestoppers.com.
