A 2-year-old child who has been missing for several hours is William Anthony David Odom, Harrison County Sheriff Troy Peterson said.

The search is around the 19400 block of Pete Hickman Road, where the child’s mother and aunt searched for several hours before they called the sheriff’s department around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Peterson said.


The child has autism and was wearing only diapers when last seen.

Peterson released the boy’s name and a description later Tuesday as the search continued. The boy weights 35 pounds, is 3-foot-tall, has blue/hazel eyes and a brown shaven head.

I am glad he was found safe. They got very, very lucky, IMO. I hope authorities will investigate how the child went missing, exactly. If this has happened before...something needs to change.
 
Those children with autism who are "runners" really need extra eyes. I know of a family close to me that got a specially trained dog that the child was tethered to. The dog was awesome. He would pull back and not let the child run off. Interesting as well that the child and the dog created a very cool bond and the child actually was calmed by the dog's presence. A win win all the way around.

2-year-old missing for 9 hours locked himself in a car, Harrison County sheriff says

A 2-year-old child who disappeared from his rural home early Tuesday walked several miles through woods before he crawled into a car and locked the door, Harrison County Sheriff Troy Peterson said.

“He probably walked three or four miles through the woods, and his dog stayed right by his side until he got in the car,” Peterson said.

Even then, the dog stayed around the car, he said.

The boy, only in a diaper, was on a piece of property where a car was unlocked and its windows were cracked.

William, who has autism, started honking the car’s horn around the time a school bus stopped nearby, Peterson said. A student got off the bus and heard the honking and went to check it out, and found the child, Peterson said. The student got his uncle, who notified officials.

“Every time we found his footprint, we found the dog footprint right beside him. So the dog traveled with him all day," Peterson said. "When the little boy was found the dog was still circling the truck and scratching on the truck."

Peterson said at this time he doesn't suspect foul play.

"We believe he just did this on his own," he said.

Odom was found by another child who was just getting off a school bus. That child heard the truck's horn beeping and when he walked over he saw Odom and told his uncle.
"His uncle came over and forced the window down. And took the kid out and brought him to us," said Peterson.

The mother of a 2-year-old child who went missing for six hours on Tuesday was arrested on a misdemeanor child neglect charge Wednesday, Harrison County Sheriff Troy Peterson said.

It was the second time Chelsea Noble’s toddler, who has autism, has been reported missing, Peterson said.

Noble, 21, was at home when her toddler, William Odom, wandered out of his home in the 19400 block of Pete Hickman Road, Peterson said.

Today was no ordinary school day for ten-year-old Blake Carroll and yesterday afternoon was far from usual after he stumbled upon a life-saving mission, rushing for help when he came across missing two-year-old William Odom.


Tuesday afternoon, Saucier Elementary School fifth grader Blake Carroll thought he was going on a fun adventure in his backyard fort, but ended up being a vital part of a rescue mission. “I heard a horn honking and my uncle’s truck,” said Blake, “My uncle don’t get home that early so when I went to the truck, I heard the baby crying and that’s what caught my attention. When I got home, about 20 minutes after, I found the missing two-year-old.”

Out of my four, one was a runner. We installed a chain high up on the front door to prevent something like this.

William wandered several miles!

His dog must have been exhausted and thirsty too.

Wonder why his head is shaved. Maybe lice?

Wonder how many other children were removed.

So glad he's safe!

Maybe they should help these folks, yeah? Maybe this country should work on helping more than punishing. I have three youngins & none of them have autism. I had my oldest when I was 22. I can't imagine being a young mom, down in a state that isn't known for being open-minded about things like autism. Like, instead of arresting her, tearing apart the family & causing undue hardship, why don't they teach them the resources for this? It would be less of a burden on the emergency crews. Why don't they get her an autism dog? Sure, the up front cost is a bit but I'd bet a pretty penny it'd be cheaper than all that manpower.

Usually on here, we see the parents acting too calm & it turns out a parent murdered their child. Well, this is one of the stories with the good endings & seemingly no nefarious plot. Stuff happens.

Once, after my boys' dad & I divorced, he had them, it was nap time for everybody. Well our younger was an escape artist so on our doors to our apartments (we moved to the same complex after the divorce to make it easier for the boys), he installed a slide & deadbolt lock up at the top of the door as well as the regular ones. Guess what? He still got out! Our neighbors, who luckily aren't alarmists, took him in until he could get ahold of our ex. It all happened in the span of an hour & a half & my ex had no idea until he & our other son woke up. Was I worried at first? Yeah but I wasn't mad. My ex took numerous precautions before it even happened. We didn't even have a dog to stay with our kid.

Sometimes mistakes happen, doesn't mean everybody should be arrested for them. Dang.
 
They live near a creek and a river. I think punishment is warranted when this is something that is more than just a freak accident. It has happened TWICE already. This is clearly not a safe environment for the child. They got LUCKY, twice. Next time...they may not be so lucky. We don't know the entire story. I am sure there is more evidence of neglect that we haven't heard. I highly doubt it's a situation of "he slipped away while I was in the bathroom" or something like that. Just a hunch, though.
 
She needs to get him a GPS tracker. They are quick and slick and drawn to water..... this luck will end real soon. And then she will be charged with something big, on top of losing her child. I always link the GPS tracker on the autism threads, but I'm on my phone. If anyone needs the info, feel free to ask.
