Found Safe NC - Amani Bruce, 5, & mom, Crystal Walston, 38, driving stolen car, car found, Cary, 10 Aug 2022

Cary police are searching for a woman and her 5-year-old daughter after finding a vehicle the mother was driving, according to a news release. Cary police said Wednesday afternoon they’re looking for Crystal Walston, 38, and her daughter, Amani Jada Bruce. They were last seen in the 100 block of Rosedown Drive, a street not far from the intersection of NE Maynard Drive and Harrison Avenue.

At 5 p.m., police said Walston was believed to be driving a stolen vehicle — a 2019 Ford Escape with UNC Rex Hospital markings on it. At 6:11 p.m., police said the UNC Rex vehicle was found but that Walston and Amani remained missing. Amani was last seen wearing purple pajamas with a unicorn on front.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911.

Cary, N.C. — Cary police are searching for a missing 5-year-old girl who was last seen with her mother in a stolen UNC Health vehicle.
Amani Jada Bruce was last seen with her biological mother Crystal Walston.
Walston, 38, was at UNC Health Rex as a behavioral health patient. She injured two hospital employees and fled the property in a stolen hospital vehicle.

I know social media can be deceiving but she seems so upbeat and like she adores her little girl. I really hope they are safe. I wonder what caused her to be in the behavioral health unit. I hope she can get the help she needs.

Walston also has previous state charges of assault on a child and felony breaking and entering from Sept. 2021, the Department of Corrections confirms. She faced 18 months of probation for these charges.

Additionally, earlier in the day, Cary police recovered a stolen UNC Rex vehicle stolen by Walston.

A source with Raleigh police confirmed Walston was a patient at UNC Rex with an involuntary commitment order. The source also said she left the hospital, drove to a Cary house off of Rosedown Drive, for her daughter and took off.

UNC Health Rex released a statement to CBS 17 Wednesday night on the incident at its complex with Walston:
“On Wednesday afternoon, a behavioral health patient stole a vehicle from UNC Health Rex Hospital in Raleigh and fled the property. Two hospital employees suffered minor injuries. Our hospital security team is working closely with local law enforcement. Our top priority is always the safety and well-being of our teammates and our patients.”
