One Year Later: Jonathan Blackwell Still Missing

Authorities say there's still no sign of a local Marine reported missing a year ago

Jonathan Blackwell was last seen near his Reidsville home in October 2004. A week after his disappearance, his car was found burned.

Friday morning, investigators with the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office were back at the scene where his car was found.

"The biggest thing, when you get a hot lead you run with it," said Sgt. Marcus Marshall. "All of a sudden, you exhaust that lead. But we must remain hopeful and continue to fight."

Mary Blackwell said a year without her son has been the "hardest and most difficult time I can remember in my life."

Anyone with information about Blackwell should call the sheriff's office at (336) 349-9683

that I have ever come across. This family man with a stable home life, good job, and everything going great, simply disappears without a trace(literally!). If it wasn't for the fact that his burnt-out car was found a week later, it would almost seem like he simply walked away from his life-but the authorties have never stopped investigating any and all leads they have received, no matter how trivial they may be. I am posting a link below to a recent update-maybe someone out there can help end this family's pain and give some solid info that leads to his being located!

Sadly, I think his guy met with foul play. Perhaps he was involved in something he shouldn't have been, perhaps it was a carjacking, I don't know. But the burned out car is NOT a good sign. If you're going to leave on your own, you either take your car or leave it. You don't set it on fire and hide it in the woods.
I have info about Jonathan's case here: http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/b/blackwell_jonathan.html

Jonathan Blackwell needs a bump. I saw his picture on the America's Most Wanted site and thought, what a good looking guy, sounds like everyone in his life just loves him. Maybe somebody has read something new?

I can tell you that Sam Page-the Sheriff of Rockingham Co(where Reidsville is located) has NOT given up on this case-Jonathan's disappearance as well as Jennifer Short's murder(her remains were found in Rockingham Co.)are still being investigated as info comes in-unfortunately, there has been no new info in either case recently and all prior possible leads have been exhausted.
What LE needs is some good, solid info to get them in the right direction-both these cases have been exceedingly frustrating for LE as well as hearbreaking for their loved ones. If anyone out there has ANY info, please contact the Sheriff's dept of Rockingham Co, NC. If not comfortable with that-please contact a local media outlet who will get the info to the authorities!

[IMG][IMG][IMG]Stacey Maurice Webster allegedly turned himself in to authorities

There has been a major break in a two-year-old missing person's case. The case does have ties to southside. Authorities found the body they believe is Jonathan Blackwell of Reidsville North Carolina.

In October 2004, Jonathan Blackwell disappeared after leaving work at the Goodyear Plant in Danville. A week later, the 33-year-old's burnt out car was found in the woods just over the border in Pittsylvania County.

Investigators got a break this week. They got a tip his body was buried in a barn in Guilford County. His body was found about 30 yards from that barn Friday morning. A suspect turned himself later that evening. He is 31-year-old Stacey Maurice Webster. We understand he is changed with first degree murder.

Reidsville, NC -- Jonathan Blackwell's family just wants to know why anyone would want to kill him. His mother says the news knocked the wind right out of her. For more than two years, she's been holding out hope that Jonathan might still be alive. Now, she's having to face the truth.

"I would like to know why." OAS_AD('ArticleFlex_1');http://gcirm.gannett-tv.com/RealMedia/ads/adstream_lx.ads/news.wfmynews2.com/article/865964488/ArticleFlex_1/OasDefault/WFMY-DiamondGallery-2006/web_diamond_gallery_300x250_copy.jpg/61363532336136633435383437633030?_RM_EMPTY_

Mary Blackwell says she's never seen or heard of Stacey Webster, the man police say murdered her son.

"I don't know whether Jonathan knew him or not."

Whatever happened, she only knows her son didn't deserve to die.

"What type of person would do this? Hold it and keep it from a family that's been wondering what happened to their child for two years?"

Despite the sad ending to this story, I am glad his mother now at least knows where her son is and can give him a proper burial. The torture of not knowing his whereabouts is abated. Prayers for her and his other loved ones.
