Woman Stabbed To Death At Raleigh Apartment Complex

Authorities Search For Victim's 1997 Honda Civic Coupe

    POSTED: 6:17 am EST November 8, 2005
    UPDATED: 8:39 am EST November 9, 2005

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Police say Lauren Michele Redman was found around 2:20 a.m. Tuesday stabbed to death outside an apartment complex at Dominion Walnut Creek near Gorman Street.

Police responded to a 911 call around 2:20 a.m. Tuesday at the apartment complex near Gorman Street. When officers arrived, they found Lauren Michele Redman, 22, who lived at 3010 North Walnut Creek Parkway, stabbed to death.

At one point, investigators took a piece of wood from the apartment grounds. Early Tuesday morning, they were also seen talking with a young man at the crime scene, but they would not say if he was a suspect in the case or a witness. Police were tight-lipped about the case and would not say who called 911, if the death was random or if there were any suspects in the case.

Police are also searching for Redman's car, a 1997 green Honda Civic coupe with North Carolina license plate TTA 9870. Authorities said the vehicle had some damage in the area of the right rear bumper and right rear quarter panel and that there was also some duct tape on the damaged areas.

Administrators at East Wake High School, where Redman graduated in 2001, said Tuesday that Redman was a good student who played soccer and tennis.

"She was a model student, did all the right things," said East Wake High School's athletic director, Charles Corbett. "(She was) always where she was supposed to be when she was supposed to be there."

Raleigh Woman's Stabbing Death Probably Not Random, Police Say

    POSTED: 3:41 pm EST November 9, 2005

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Investigators said Wednesday that the fatal stabbing of a Raleigh woman early Tuesday morning did not appear to be a random act.

Raleigh police found 22-year-old Lauren Michele Redman outside her apartment building at 3010 North Walnut Creek Parkway at about 2:20 a.m. Tuesday. She died at the scene.

Police would not say who called 911 or if there were any suspects in the case. They were seen early Tuesday removing a piece of wood from the apartment grounds and, at one point, were talking with a man at the crime scene.

Authorities also said late Wednesday afternon that Redman's 1997 Honda Civic coupe had been located on the 800 block of Barringer Drive, but did not give any other details.

Redman was an English major at North Carolina State University, but she had not taken any classes there for more than a year.

Byron Lamar Waring, 19, was arrested Wednesday and charged with one count of murder in connection with Redman's death.

Police said the two suspects were probably casual acquaintances of Redman.

Murder victim Lauren Michele Redman died from 28 stab wounds to the neck, head and torso in a savage Nov. 8 attack that also left signs she was sexually assaulted and partially suffocated, an autopsy report shows.

Redman, 22, found battered and bleeding in the breezeway of her West Raleigh apartment by a neighbor moments before she died, also had clear packing tape wrapped around her head and mouth. The tape blocked her breathing and caused small hemorrhaging in the surface lining of the eyes that are signs of asphyxiation...

Sasser once lived at Redman's apartment, but moved out before the stabbing, police said. In a search warrant statement, police also said Sasser was angry with Redman for kicking him out of the apartment and told others she owed him money. He also said he, Waring and Sanderlin visited Redman at her apartment the night before she was killed.

    ........................................................................................................

    A little more about Sasser:

Two suspects -- Byron Lamar Waring, 19, and Joseph Daniel Sanderlin, 24 -- are being held in the Wake County jail on first-degree murder charges in connection with Redman's death. A third suspect, George Bradford Sasser, 25, is also being held in the Wake County jail on an accessory to murder after the fact charge for tipping off Waring and Sanderlin that police were searching for them and an unrelated charge of attempted robbery.
    ........................................................................................................

This is a really long article and it is unbelievable what all the two guys did to this poor girl. They just may end up getting the death penalty.
