Does anyone think KW was returning to the home last night to pick up her copy of the CPS report? Just thinking if it was indeed mailed to the parents on Friday, she may not have had a copy accessible when the news broke. LE may know where she's staying, but I don't see them delivering her a copy. If going to get her mail and wanting a police escort, it would also be a good opportunity to get anything else needed from the home (clothing, medication, etc.). MOO

What follows is all my opinion based on my experiences. Given the geographic location and local culture of where this crime occurred, I would guess that folks just don't know what is and is not appropriate to talk about with reporters, and that they are heavily influenced by being the center of attention and wanting to be involved, help, and be "in the know."
I'm thinking of how reporters would be held in esteem (they are on TV, they are important, you want to talk to reporters).
I am thinking of how the attention would feel, to folks that are usually not paid attention to.
I am thinking of how people might feel, after being victimized (or feeling they were victimized) by the CPS system.
I am thinking of how men sometimes react when domestic stuff happens. i.e. father who's wife leaves with kids sometimes gives up, feels powerless, and struggles to navigate the system. Add in financial woes, and I can see how a year could go by without seeing the kids.
And then you have the child-rearing practices in communities of poverty, low education, and rural south. (i.e. the video others have referenced of cookie decorating where the AW calls a son a "douche" because he dropped a cookie. Very typical way of fathers interacting with sons in this kind of a setting. It's tough love, rough, kind of rude.). Parenting to make your kids tough. (I am talking from my own experience in similar communities, watching my dad's family, and being a teacher).
I have no doubt that AW would be considered a good solid father in his community.
I also have no doubt that if you transplanted him into a middle-class community in a city, he would stand out like a cactus.

Has that video made it into MSM? I thought it interesting that the boys looked happy, relaxed, no hollow eyes back then compared to more recent photos of them.

Yet she hasn't been charged with any crime, so we can't discuss her in those terms.
We can discuss what's been in MSM, including this.

Also curious about the date, but I don't think it would necessarily give an indication of when Mariah died. They were renting a home less than 4 months and LE had already been out relating to property damage (on the van) inflicted by EK's "adult temper". I would have a hard time believing there weren't obvious signs within the home of his temper and abuse. Dressers would be needed to cover damage to the walls. MOO, concrete walls are more suitable.

Do you have any idea of the date of her post for the dressers?

Oh and :welcome5:

That pink car video...The accents were different (and beautiful accents when I heard LE and other people with those accents!) but the tone of voice..sounded just like Bella Bond's mom in her birthday video...

Ugh. You have no idea what a physical reaction my body just had while reading those last few words. [emoji20]

So the family member who had been talking to LE, that may have been the boys? THEY may have been the ones who gave information that led to Ek's arrest....

I wondered if they would have passed the disposal site on the way home from their thanksgiving trip? Maybe the boys did know.

OT im trying to make the twins lunch while I catch up. Instead of swiping my screen down, I've just swiped the butter wahhh

Did they release the address of the abandoned house on High Hill Rd. ?
IIRC it was 711, per a reporter I watched. I can't remember the name, but it was a local TV station. I may be recalling incorrectly, but punch that into Google Street view and see.

I just can't wrap my brain around WHY would a parent esp. A mother would look the other way when it comes to her kids being physically and sexual abused?????

WHY WHY WHY did she not do anything???????

They lived at 278 High Hill prior to moving to the current residence in Aug. It's less than 2 miles from 711. For some reason this is just bugging me to no end!

My God, this poor little child and her poor brothers. Thankfully, she is in a better place, free from the hands of abuse and neglect.

It’s just my opinion that we will see another arrest by tomorrow night. If not, then before the end of the week...I think once the preliminary autopsy report has been released, and LE has a cause of death and more info of what might have been done to that child.

And I don't believe the boys spoke about being sexually abused. They were physically abused and beaten and screamed at. So nothing to be ashamed of in front of their friends. Obviously there is going to be drama and gossip because of the tragic situation. JMO

As a victim of childhood physical abuse myself I can tell you that children very often feel shame about the physical abuse they suffer. And the more people that know about it often the worse it feels. And for me, and I suspect many victims, having other people know made it more difficult in the community for them. I grew up in a fairly small college town and would run into off duty LE who had been the responders to DV calls at my home many times. I felt shame and embarrassment when I saw them even though as an adult I realize they may not even have known who I was since they were in off duty mode. Even later in life, as a college student, I walked into class on the first day of a new semester to find it was being taught by a man who had been a court ordered therapist earlier in life. I hid on the back row scared he would remember who I was. The effects of childhood abuse last forever. And far past when the physical scars have healed.

The caption / graphics on the Ashleigh Banfield show said AW was served the CPS document on December 1. Served to me means LE shows up at your door and you sign the a legal document showing you received. A CPS document of this magnitude is just sent through regular USPS mail? Just crazy IMHO

IMO he looks perturbed, irritated, not upset or or scared

IMO that looks like a smirk on his face! ...

Awww, I am sorry to say that we are losing our little Chihua-Corgi this holiday season as well. He has a heart murmur and his heart meds have weakened his kidneys. I replaced his picture with the beautiful flower that opened up the day that we were told the bad news. I walked outside to cry and saw this HUGE flower had opened for one day in the yard.

Instead of flying up North to go to a large family Christmas, hubby and I are staying home to spend our last days with Harley, and make him comfortable.

So sorry to hear. We had a kitty who struggled with kidney disease. We gave her IV fluids about every other day and special
Food for about 8 mos. kept her feeling happy and well enough to hang with us for a little longer. Was a hard loss! Fur babies are so great and hard at the same time!

or in some jurisdictions legal service can be done via registered/certified mail or civilian process servers.

JMHO

That could be if it was requested.

Federal Action

Provisions governing confidentiality and sharing information in the federal Child Abuse
Prevention and Treatment Act guide state legislation. In order for states to receive federal
funds for their child abuse programs, the law requires that states keep child protective services
records confidential. Congress reauthorized the act in 1996 and made the confidentiality
provisions more specific. With provisions to protect the identities of children and families, the
law requires states to enact legislation authorizing disclosure of confidential information to:
•
People who are subjects of reports,
•
Federal, state and local governments that need the information to protect children,
•
The public, in cases of a child fatality or near fatality,
•
Child abuse citizen review panels (panels are not allowed to release identifying
information, but the state has the option of deciding what types of information may be
made public),
•
Child fatality review panels,
•
A grand jury or a court,
•
Other entities specifically authorized by the legislature.
