Andrew McGregor, 73, went missing from his Wairoa address on Monday morning. He suffers from Alzheimers.

He is described as frail and skinny, with glasses. He is about 5ft 7in (1.7 metres) tall, and is slightly unshaven.

McGregor is driving a 1999 maroon Toyota Camry Saloon, with the registration YK1417.

He has his pet fox terrier, Benji, with him.

Police are asking the residents of Wairoa and Napier to keep an eye out for McGregor and his car. In particular, anyone travelling the road between Napier and Wairoa is asked to be aware of the missing vehicle.

An elderly Alzheimer's sufferer missing for more than 24 hours has been found safe and well.

Andrew McGregor, 73, of Wairoa, in northern Hawke's Bay, had been missing since Monday morning and police believed it was likely he had driven south towards Napier.

He was found shortly after 5pm by residents in Bridget St, Clive, who took him in and gave him a meal and a cup of tea while police were contacted.

How lovely that someone took him in and gave him something to eat and drink. I'm so glad he had his little dog with him too. Like happy endings. :)
