NJ NJ - John Weisbecker, 21, Ocean City, 11 March 2009

Are there any NJ advocates that would like to co-admin a NJ Billy's Law FB page with me?

Why do we need Billy's Law?

I urge you to get involved. "Like" your state page, "Share" your state page. Contact your state's Republican US Senator. The contact information can be found on every state's page under NOTES. We need your help. The time is now.

The following was written by Maureen Reintjes. (https://www.facebook.com/maureen.reintjes?fref=ts) This was taken from the Template for letter for Republican US Senator Co-Sponsorship - Reintroduction of Billy's Law. The template can be found on every state's page under NOTES.

"There are over 110,000 missing in the US. There are anywhere from 40,000 to 60,000 unidentified remains around the US, yet there is no one mandatory repository where they are listed. There is only one national repository, NamUs.gov that even houses both the missing and the unidentified persons. But until this federal bill is reintroduced and passes it is not mandatory for law enforcement, medical examiners and coroners to report to NamUs, our National Missing and Unidentified Persons System. Billy's Law will strengthen what the families cried into existence and the government answered those tears by providing us with NamUs.Over 1/2 million family and friends of those missing are faced with finding their loved one in this current very broken and fragmented system. The way it currently stands if you have a loved one go missing it is like searching for a needle in a haystack. This legislation will greatly reduce the size of the haystack. Sadly their loved ones may have been found but until NamUs came into existence the chances were slim that you would ever know if your loved one's remains are in a medical examiner's office or interred in a pauper's grave. NamUs is bringing answers to families quicker than ever before. Families that have waited decades for their answer are getting them through NamUs. But until it is mandatory to report to NamUs the system remains broke and many families that should have answers are not getting them."

Please visit Peace for Missing and Unidentified Persons -Support and Resources for families of the missing (http://missing.ning.com/). It is here you will always have the most up-to-date information as it is ground zero for Billy's Law.

Hunt intensifies for Ocean City man missing 7 years

The new red polo shirts that John Weisbecker asked his mother to buy him the day before he started working his seasonal job are still in their packages. In the seven years since, they’ve never been worn.

Weisbecker was 21 years old when he disappeared March 11, 2009, from the Asbury Avenue home he shared with his mother and sister. As another year passes without a sign of the missing man, his mother said she prays daily to learn what happened and authorities say they are hoping a new social media presence on the case will help them solve the mystery.

“I don’t know what to say anymore,” Powell said. “It doesn’t make sense.”

She said milestones in her daughter’s life – her graduations from high school and college and her marriage last year – have been difficult with one-third of her small family missing.

“It was hard watching the mother-son dance,” Powell said of a hallmark of many weddings.

Dave Young, 46, owner of Kessel’s Korner, employed Weisbecker from the time he was 14. The disappearance of his former line cook still haunts him.

“I’ve always wondered if things would have been different if I had called two hours earlier,” Young said.

Young’s call the day before Kessel’s opened for the season went unanswered, he said, unlike his call two days before when he spoke with Weisbecker about coming in to help with prep work.

Search Continues for Missing Ocean City Man After 7 Years

Ocean City, NJ -- March 11 marks the seven-year anniversary of the apparent kidnapping of an Ocean City man from his Asbury Avenue home, and investigators continue to offer a $50,000 reward to anyone who provides information as to his whereabouts.

Eight Years Later, Still no Trace of Ocean City’s Missing Man

For Jen Powell, the disappearance of her son is made even more difficult by the exasperating lack of clues in the case – and the uncertainty of even knowing whether he is dead or alive.

John Weisbecker inexplicably vanished on March 11, 2009, from the house he shared with his mother and sister at 205 Asbury Ave. in Ocean City. A postal worker saw Weisbecker that morning, but no one else has spotted him since then, police said.

As another year passes without any trace of Weisbecker, his mother remains convinced that someone – somewhere – knows something about her son and must come forward to finally give the family closure.

“I just keep praying that one day someone will have a conscience and tells us what is going on,” she said in a phone interview Friday on the eighth anniversary of her son’s disappearance.

“Even if they do it anonymously, it doesn’t matter. I would just like to know what happened,” she continued.

Police in Ocean City reached out for help from the New Jersey State Police and the FBI, which brought their missing-persons expertise to bear on the case. Weisbecker's DNA and physical description were entered into the FBI's National Crime Information Center.
Detectives in Ocean City work the case every day, Lt. Steven Ang said.
"We're retracing our steps, going back over everything we've done from Day One," Ang said. "We re-interviewed some people. We try to make sure we haven't missed anything or overlooked anything from the beginning."

So, the police dept. even asked the FBI to step in.

Weisbecker was a popular guy. At 21 years old, he had a ton of friends, and was close with his mother and sister.

“His sister, myself, we had a really good, we have a really good relationship that’s just hopefully on hold right now,” his mother Jennifer Powell said.

It’s a relationship that’s now been on hold for a dozen years. Weisbecker was last seen the morning of March 11, 2009, at his family’s home near 2nd Street and Asbury Avenue in Ocean City.

Detective Daniel Lancaster took the initial report on March 12, 2009, and has been lead on the investigation.

“We know the local mailman was last to see him at the house,” Lancaster said.

Weisbecker worked on the local restaurant scene but was laid off at the time he went missing because of the slower business pace during the winter months down the shore. Police believe his disappearance is suspicious.
