NJ - Mystery drones seen nightly

If they are indeed spy drones, it makes our military, FBI, and government look like idiots for NOT doing anything to stop them from spying over the military base.
The Pentagon did nothing about the Chinese spy balloons drifting over sensitive bases until the public clamor became too much and forced them to take action.

I live in an area where there is constant air traffic (planes heading to Philly), so it’s hard to say. It wasn’t until last week sometime that I heard something very loud, and assumed it was a helicopter. I checked my flight radar app and saw nothing, so I went outside and saw something and was confused. Then I started seeing all of the posts on the ring app about drones. People are posting about it every single night.

I was letting my dogs out last night and saw one in the distance. This one was quiet, or just so far away I couldn’t hear it.
how are they not interfering with planes and causing the FAA to notice?

The doing nothing makes me think they know it's a TOP SECRET military operation so they won't confirm or deny anything.
If it was spy drones the size of a car, I'd hope our military would take them out.

I would say they need to work on keeping TOP SECRET things secret if that’s the case.

That's a possibility-- but you'd think the fbi would've figured that out long ago ?
Also-- drones ain't cheap.
These operators would be hobbyists with $$.
Just pointing that out.

It's a valid concern for the mayors, and it should concern the governors of that state as well, I'd think !
Have they said anything, from any of these states that are seeing this ?
Omo.
Yes @Chimera ….. and as @PrairieWind notes above in a related post little was done in another case until…….

And I have a suspicion (my speculation only) that the governor of NJ might have spoken to soon when assuring words to the effect ‘nothing to be concerned here’.

I shall have to stop typing now on what I really think about this. ….. Just unbelievable. And I sure wish I could hope for competence from some elected and appointed officials involved. Unfortunately the antithesis of the word competence is coming to mind. SMH. MOO

I'm guessing maybe the Governor was told by federal authorities that there "nothing to be concerned about" and passed that on. Now he is realizing they maybe just been gas-lighting him.

I agree!
It would be WISE not to fly over people's homes scaring them unless they are testing how people respond to them.
I lived by a military base when I was a child and they test secret aircraft in the dead of night to avoid drawing large crowds.
The military would always DENY, DENY, DENY even when citizens had proof.
It was on a need-to-know basis only.

It is part of why I question that these would be US military drones because what would be the purpose of these flights? That doesn't make much sense to me.

My guess is as good as yours at this point...but perhaps a Starlink TOP SECRET government-contracted project drone flight testing for surveillance and military strikes.
I'm fascinated I just hope they are not nefarious.

55 minutes ago — Right now, we know that there are drones flying in from the direction of the ocean. We also know there is an Iranian drone mothership ?

If the US government was testing them, I think they would pick a less populated area. Also, test flights are coordinated with the FAA so that air traffic controllers can be alerted. I think they belong to a foreign government. There are foreign ships already afloat that are drone carriers; one of them is probably off our shores. China launched an unusual "aircraft carrier" in May 2024 that lacks the characteristics of a conventional aircraft carrier; it's a drone carrier. Turkey is doing the same. The Iranians have one. "Karine Jean-Pierre said Tuesday that drones flying over New Jersey were not foreign." So that would seem to imply that it is known whose drones these are. I see the Pentagon has stated that they are not US military drones. Of course, they could be parsing their words and they could be drones belonging to military contractors or other US govt agencies.

What could they be ?

A new delivery system ?
A new policing system ?
A new google earth ?
Google earth live ?
A new tool for insurance companies to evaluate your property ?
A new tool for prospective home buyers to check out a neighborhood live?

I wondered if these weren't owned by Google or some other company for some sort of mapping purpose. But they would still have to comply with FAA regs. And now I see the FBI is not ruling out foreign actions. Government at its finest.

An offshore threat is a DHS and DOD responsibility. The FBI may not be aware of the details yet...

Maybe there's a mix of foreign and domestic flying at the same time? craziness.
