Well let's just begin with the fact that the 13 year old girl was a victim of child abuse rape, not a girlfriend. The 18 year old boy is a rapist. Every adult who knew about the situation and did not report it to police is guilty of condoning child rape.

Neither one of them should be dead, but if someone had done the right thing to protect the girl from being exploited they would not have been sitting in that car together at all. Murder is not the way to handle this.

So sad for her family, apparently Anamarie had been missing since Sept. The video says she was classified as having "special needs" and had been running away repeatedly since she met Venancio in January.

A lot more on the father's struggle to protect his little girl in this article. http://www.santafenewmexican.com/ne...cle_61321406-ea33-54fe-a56f-2d8bf8317af9.html

It sounds like her dad did notify police long before she got killed but they didn't list her as a missing child. What's wrong with these cops? Is this the result of one officer allowing his own bias to keep him from doing his job or was it a well known and accepted practice? She is a child with special needs no less! Criminals commonly use a child's vulnerabilities to take advantage, it doesn't matter on bit that this little girl thought she and this criminal were a couple!

OT, but one article said she had dropped out of school...when the age to do so is 18 in NM. Not that I can see how a law can prevent someone from dropping out, but still...she was 13.

Perhaps she started doing homeschooling instead of going to a privates/public school. Some people refer to changing to homeschooling as dropping out of school. I don't know about New Mexico, but here in Washington State, as well as not being allowed to drop out of school until you are 18, they have a strict attendance policy. If your in secondary school and you have two full days of unexcused absences within a semester you get sent to juvenile detention. I would think that if New Mexico doesn't allow people to drop out under age 18 then they'd have strict consequences for not attending school, but maybe not.

From what I read, it sounded like she simply stopped going to school. She has been missing or on the run or whatever she was doing since Sept.

I have had experience with Latin Kings, used to counsel them in prison. Probably the boy was part of the gang and they were after him, the girl just got in the way.

what a sad case. the girl was beautiful and looked much older than her age. the boy looked a lot younger. my 15 year old step son looks his age. she was growing up too fast, probably not supervised well enough. I know the struggle of the working single parent :( she had bf's before this guy. yet and still he was way too old for her, and was getting into trouble w drugs.

the suit doesn't help Martinez look any more innocent.
