Nursing home residents overwhelmed with new pen pals

"GATESVILLE, Texas (KWTX) More than 50 residents at a local nursing home seeking pen pals have received thousands of letters from around the world.

From Spain to a pre-school in Thailand which sent a postcard to every resident in the program, letters and gifts have been flooding Hillside Medical Lodge ever since they put out a call for senior pen pals last week."

This is so amazing. I used to work in a nursing home (admin stuff) and so many patients never had visitors, cards, phone calls or a gift. What a lovely way to brighten their day, give them a topic to discuss, challenge them to use their fine motor skills in writing, etc.

Many of the seniors have been receiving gifts with their letters including books, cookies and homemade face masks

As of Monday, each of the 52 residents in the program had received letters from at least 50 new pen pals.
