NV - 4 Murders in one week, LE asking for tips, Washoe & Douglas Counties, Jan 2019 *arrest*

Isn't that interesting. At the school district we had 30 days to do a full scale assessment, write up the results, present findings and recommendations.

Must be because women work primarily in school settings, and men work in corrections. Just saying.

LOL That's pretty much exactly what I was thinking! It doesn't take this long for children and in the school setting. Apparently criminals and confessed murderers are just extra special unlike children.

Judge denies request to delay Wilber Martinez-Guzman trial to 2021

Oct 21, 2019

"RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Wilber Martinez-Guzman appeared in a Reno courtroom Monday, October 21, 2019 as his attorneys argued for a delay in the case....

The defense team has asked for a delay because it needs the testimony of a neural-psychologist who speaks Spanish. Such experts are in great demand because of the number of Salvadorans facing capital punishment cases across the United States.

The defense needs the expert testimony because they are trying to prove that Martinez-Guzman has an intellectual disability. The death penalty is not allowed if a defendant's IQ is below 70. The defense suggested in court that Martinez-Guzman's IQ may be as low as 55.

The judge said she is willing to push the start of the trial back to August 31, 2020 if the defense can assure her their neural-psychologist is available for a July 29, 2020 hearing on Martinez-Guzman's intellectual disability.

The case is due back in court for a November 25, 2019 hearing."

His plea agreement is for all his charges, the first plea in Washoe County is done, he then has to plead guilty in Douglas County, if he doesn't the whole deal is off and the DP reinstated as a possible penalty

The man who murdered Reno residents Jerry and Sherry David asked for the maximum sentence, and Washoe County District Judge Connie Steinheimer obliged.

Wilber Martinez-Guzman, 22, received the maximum sentence on two murder charges with a firearm enhancement on Monday.

In addition to the murder charges, he also was sentenced to the maximum for stealing the pistol he used during a two-week killing spree.
