GUILTY NV - Britney Ujlaky, 16, Elko, 10 March 2020; last seen getting in Ford F-150, found deceased, *arrest*

this is so sad and troubling.
why has it taken so long to announce what the family has been saying since she was actually found??

Hopefully it's because they already know who did it :(. Otherwise, I have no idea and I'd be very angry if I were the family.....so much time for people to forget what they saw, etc.

No suspect has been identified but the office revealed they did not think there was any harm to the public.

They asked for all tips to be kept away from social media, and instead reported directly to them.

' We are working around the clock following up on leads and tips,' a spokesman said.

Just found this thread -- and just saw this article -- please forgive if it's a repeat:

Nevada police are investigating the killing of a 16-year-old girl who’d gone missing three days earlier.

The body of Gabrielle “Britney” Lynn Ujlaky was found March 11 in the Burner Basin area of Spring Creek, near the city of Elko, three days after she was last seen getting into a green Ford F-150 pickup in front of Spring Creek High School around 4 p.m.

On Monday, The Elko County Sheriff’s Office said her death was being investigated as a homicide.

Elk County Sheriff Dept posted a notice
FEMALE BODY LOCATED IN BURNER BASIN AREA.
The deceased was transported to the medical examiner’s office for identification.

They are not speculating who this may be by any means. I’m also unaware of the proximity of where this body was found to where Britney was last seen.
According to google maps, Burner Basin is 6.6 miles from Spring Creek H.S.

Is Burner Basin a town? Does anyone know what it is? It doesn't sound like a town, but I am very unfamiliar with places in NV. Thanks.

A basin is a geographical feature in mountainous areas, a flat area that has sunken at some point millions of years ago or whatever. From Google satellite images, this one has been divided by some rough roads into large blocks one of which looks to have a bunch of trailers on it, others of which have homestead type constructions and still others that are completely empty.

Many thanks for the info, @evilwise :)

Wow. Facebook link is hot I'm glad someone has been apprehended. Too bad it wasn't while she was still alive. Kids killing kids and in normal old cowboy country too. This will be an interesting one to follow.

This article explains how Britney knew Bryce Dickey:

Rodeo Friend Arrested in Murder of Teen Cowgirl Britney Ujlaky

"An 18-year-old man was arrested Thursday in connection to the murder of Britney Ujlaky, a 16-year-old girl in rural Nevada who vanished after getting a ride from the suspect, who was one of her friends from the rodeo.

Bryce Dickey, of Spring Creek, was cuffed on one count of open murder. He was scheduled to appear before a judge on Friday afternoon. . ."

The article also explains that Britney thought of him as a "big brother." The article also states that the story of Britney getting a ride from someone in a green ford pickup was made up by Dickey.

Police and Britney’s family were initially told Dickey gave Britney a ride to Spring Creek High School. She was then supposedly picked up by a mystery man in a cowboy hat who was driving a green Ford pickup truck.

But that yarn was apparently spun by the murder suspect. James told The Daily Beast that Dickey made up the story, and that he never believed it.

So she wasn't taken in front of witnesses, there was one supposed witness who turned out to be the suspect

“She did trust everybody. She always saw the good,” the grieving dad continued. If someone did wrong, “She would call you out in front of everybody. She was going to expose you for who you were, come hell or high water.”

Suggests that maybe something happened on the ride and she wasn't even willing to pretend that she was going to let him get away with it so it escalated to murder.

Probably Law Enforcement had Dickey under surveillance from the beginning and published his account as fact to get him to relax enough to incriminate himself and/or lead them to the body. Justice prevails.

The two were friends through the rodeo circuit in the ranching community, James said. They’ve known each other for years.

Her body was discovered three days later in Burner Basin, a secluded desert where kids speed around on quads and hunters pursue coyotes.

16-year-old rodeo sweetheart murdered by childhood friend who invented suspect: Cops

Britney Ujlaky was last seen on March 8, getting into a green Ford F-150 pickup truck in front of her high school, her rodeo friend Bryce Dickey told Elko County, Nevada, deputies.

But after deputies found her body three days later, Dickey mourned his friend on Facebook:
That day I had tears of pain and joy. I wish she could have seen the amount of us that came together to honor you sis. We love you so much. Just know you won’t ever be forgotten.”

But a week after that post, Dickey was in jail, charged with the murder of 16-year-old who dreamed some day of being Rodeo Queen.
It turns out, there was no green Ford pickup truck with an unknown man wearing a cowboy hat driving it. Dickey had made it up.
