NV NV - Las Vegas, WhtFem 55-60, UP355, in bus station restroom, scar, rings, clothes, Jul'82

I don't think it's Nan Dixon. She was born in 1905 en would be 77 in 1982. UID is estimated pre 60. Also height en weight is off. Nan Dixon was 4’10-5'0 (147, 32 cm - 152,5 cm) UID 64 inches (162,56 cm)
Nan Dixon 110-118 pounds, UID 138 pounds

UID probably died in the same year she was found. Nan Dixon went missing in 1978. I think the timeline does not add up as well. Where was she in the mean time?

Have they ever specified the metal in the jewelry better? She would have been about 10 years younger than my grandmothers, and I don't recall women on that generation (or even my mother's generation) commonly wearing "white metal" rather than silver, and very rarely for anything described as "wedding ring type." I wonder if she was not just a widow, but also childless, and maybe never reported missing. OTOH estimates of age may have been off, dentistry wasn't great in their time and living could be harsh, aging people early.

What about Patricia Ford? She went missing from FL 01/26/1982 after she withdrew $5000 to buy some antique figurines.
I wonder if she dyed her hair and hopped on a bus for Vegas instead, and used buying the figurines as an excuse to withdraw money without raising alarm to her family. Maybe she was ill and this was on her bucket list? Just a thought.
She has no biometrics showing available in NamUs.

Also, was this UID edentulous? I ask because when Jean MacKinney was suggested a couple of times, I looked up her profile and it stated she had upper and lower dentures, but I can't find any mention of dentures or if she had her natural teeth for this Jane Doe.

When I was in nursing school, we were taught to be very generic when taking an inventory of a patient's personal belongings. Someone who came in wearing a yellow gold diamond ring would have had it described on their inventory of personal effects as a yellow metal ring with clear stones. The reason for this is that I'm a nurse, not a jeweler. Fakes are made all the time, it could look expensive but really be costume jewelry. I'm assuming the police put out a generic description because they either didn't know what the ring was really made of or they were trying to hold back on putting too much detail out there in hopes someone may identify her through her jewelry.

I think Patricia Ford is a little bit to old.

About the dentures: In the first UID profile Carl posted (first post in this thread) it says Removable Dentures (8 Crowned teeth remaining). I couldn't find that in Namus either, but that doesn't mean that it is not correct.

Doe Network gives a good description of her partials: http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/992ufnv.html

I wonder if she might be Norma Maynard:

MP last seen Feb. 2, 1979 -- UID found July 10, 1982
MP was 5 feet 3 inches and 175 pounds -- UID was 5 feet 4 inches and 138 inches

Explanation: I am firmly convinced this UID has gone unidentified for so long because her destination of Las Vegas would have been completely out of character for her. The MP above, by all accounts, lived quietly, was very close to her husband and must have been unsettled by his sudden death at a fairly young age. She was said to have "no employable skills" but that's not to say she might not have struck it out on her own and found employment with on-the-job training. She was said to have kept large amounts of money in her purse and was possibly spotted at a Greyhound station, so I wonder if she left her old life behind, traveled far away to a place like Las Vegas and found work.

What about Helen Robinson(no pictures found) was last seen onFebruary 16, 1982 in Zanesville, Ohio. She was wearing a black and white skijacket and blue jeans.

Brown hair, brown eyes UID brown/graying hair, hazel eyes
Several surgical scars (unspecified) UID one scar
DOB 8/25/1924 UID born between ca. 1922 - 1927
65.0 5’5” =165 cm UID is 64 measered
175 lbs = 79 kilo UIDis 138 pond measered = 69 kilo (could have lost weight)

No DNA, no dental information, no story

Thanks, missed that one in doe network on the dentals.

The thing with Norma is that she has blue eyes, but I can agree on your thougts about her movements after her husband died

I've had a few questions about this case trundling round my head for a while. Maybe they've already been answered but if not I'd be interested in any thoughts.

I see in the DN case notes it's said LE believe her wallet containing all her ID and presumably her ticket had been stolen but I wonder if that was before or after her death.

1. Was the cubicle door locked or not and did the door have to be forced to get to her body? If it was locked then it seems very unlikely she was robbed after her death and a pickpocket seems most likely. If it was not locked they she could have been robbed by someone who found the body but didn't report it.

2. If she was travelling, where was her luggage? Did her bus go on without her and if so was unclaimed luggage reported when the bus was unloaded? (I realise that last question is almost certainly unanswerable). Maybe she was changing buses, left her luggage outside the cubicle and someone walked off with it.

I wonder if she was recently widowed or divorced (wedding-type ring notwithstanding) and had travelled to Las Vegas to look for work in one of the hotels. Would a woman of her age and generation be able to get chambermaid or similar work fairly easily at that time? I would have imagined she'd have been experienced in housekeeping work such as bedmaking and room cleaning. But again, if she was looking for work where was her luggage?

Thoughts anyone?

Very good questions Malmoth. My wicked me says; what if she was with a known person and he or she went off with her money and luggage and went partying in Vegas.

Sometimes having a potential match is enough to get people moving to collect DNA.

Partially agree with your opinion.

I don't think it's Nan Dixon. She was born in 1905 en would be 77 in 1982. UID is estimated pre 60.
On skeletal remains, age estimation is more often than not way off. So, I would not rule her out on this basis.

Also height en weight is off. Nan Dixon was 4’10-5'0 (147, 32 cm - 152,5 cm) UID 64 inches (162,56 cm)
Nan Dixon 110-118 pounds, UID 138 pounds
Ditto !!
Most of ID's are off about height and weight.
Family members report height and weight estimations. Unless the MP was measured and weight often by a doctor, I would take height and weight on MP reports with a grain of salt. They are often estimated, can easily be inaccurate.
Again, such a lag is more common than expected, especially on skeletal remains.

Circumstances don't bother me so much.
Might had been voluntarily missing, although very unlikely.
But again, it doesn't make it an absolute no no.

I agree that the match is odd, but not impossible.

A long shot, but it's not as if we said "UID is a teenager and we match it with a 70yo MP".
Not sure if it's English, or Greek :shame:

I suggested her too (#68) but didn't explore further or submitted. At that time there was no picture of her available. Glad to see there is now. Have to take another look. The thing about the scars bother me. UID has one scar, MP several unspecified.

Feel the need to post Karl's recon again.
