Now I get it: there is no fragment of a "Mark Pack Works" pack at the scene of the UID find. That particular pack just happened to have the same graphic as a T-shirt. The UID was wearing the T-shirt.

Now that I've got that sorted out, I'm sucked in!

It has a way of doing that, doesn't it.

This is the first UID or coldcase thread I've kept up with, but I'm a bit hooked.

Is that photo in the masthead of the Twitter account near the UID location in Wellington? Or was it in woods? Was it near a trail or just kinda out there? How far from the road?

Also, do we know which teeth were missing? Were they rotted? Broken? The guy might have just gotten socked in the mouth?

It's just a somewhat similar landscape to that part of Nevada based on my memory of a recent trip through the area a few years ago, and via google street view. It's in no way intended to be exact. I just thought it would be nice for the site to have a feel for our John Doe's surroundings.

I'll post a link that's earlier in the thread to show you a google map location of where he was found.

We do not know which teeth were missing. All we know is the sockets were healed.

Nice work, Miss M. Is that Sand Canyon in the header?

No, just a somewhat similar look to the landscape in that part of Nevada. Headers for this look are limited.

I'm just trying to give a feel for the twitter page.

In case it hasn't been posted, I found a description of the vegetation in the canyon where the UID was found.
http://www.trails.com/tcatalog_trail.aspx?trailid=XAD001-035

"This trail loops through the Pine Grove Hills within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. FR 031 travels east off of Nevada 338 and is signed to Sand Canyon. Immediately the trail enters Sand Canyon, which is thick with pinyon pines, juniper bushes, sagebrush, and creosote bush. The low canyon walls slope gently away from the trail. Although the trail is narrow, there are plenty of pullouts for passing oncoming vehicles. Sections of FR 031 can be quite sandy, and the vegetation also grows quite close to the road. The numerous pinyon and juniper trees shade the surrounding landscape, making for many good backcountry campsites along the route. Special Attractions: Route through a large network of forest roads to explore. Scenic Sand and Nye Canyons. Good backcountry campsites. The narrow trail winds through Sand Canyon."

If anyone has a Twitter account, it'd be great if you could circulate the tee photo above with a note about the investigation by Nevada LE (and $2500 reward if you think that'll help). I've posted a variety of tweets about it, the simplest one being this one:

If u recognize this shirt u might have info worth $2,500 to NV detectives: http://on.rgj.com/1FU979M #Missing Pls #RT

The link above takes the person to the article about the detective's work on this. *Also include a link to a Photobucket photo of the t-shirt pictured in the article. Pictures get attention. Here's a Photobucket link for you if you want to use a photo with your Tweet:

http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/a493/pim1012/t-shirt_zpsqfvafasg.png

It'll take you to my Photobucket album. Once there, click on the IMG link to the right (the last of 4) which will copy an IMG url for you so you can paste a photo into your Tweet.

RSBM for space -

I would suggest linking to the news story with the video of the Detective speaking and explaining the case to a reporter in person;

I have a pair of these shoes they are Orthopedic shoes.

Are yours Scandia or Standia or Stadia? I think "Standia" was a typo originally but it didn't occur to me that it might be Scandia ortho shoes instead of Stadia sneakers. Thanks for bringing this up!

They are definitely Stadia sneakers. (Read it spelled correctly in a different report; can't get my hands on it now, though). Plus the photo ad posted earlier in the thread was for "Stadia" sneakers.

Anonymous male contacted Nevada Highway Patrol on 03/12/92 @ 1700 regarding skeletal remains of a human being. Due to daylight, Law Enforcement found remains at 1130 hours on 03/12/92. Shallow grave found near the remains. Bone fragments found as far as 75 feet from remains. Animal activity noted. Hands and feet were missing. Foul play suspected.

It caught my attention that one or the other of the dates must be wrong.
