Cops charge ex-boyfriend in connection with sickening Brooklyn ax murder

By Larry Celona, Katherine Lavacca and Khristina Narizhnaya
    April 20, 2019 | 7:29pm | Updated

A young woman was hacked to death and another seriously hurt by an ax-swinging maniac who turned a Brooklyn apartment into a scene out of an ’80s slasher flick — carnage that unfolded early Saturday within earshot of a 4-year-old girl in a back bedroom, sources told The Post.

Police early Sunday charged the surviving woman’s ex-boyfriend, Jerry Brown, 34, with murder, attempted murder and weapons possession.

The suspect called himself “Grim Creepa” in social media, law enforcement sources confirmed.

Chillingly, just last month she’d referred to him affectionately on Facebook as “Mr. 187″ — street slang for a murderer.

Victim called ax-murder suspect “Grim Creepa” and “Mr. 187”

By Larry Celona and Laura Italiano

He calls himself “Grim Creepa.” And before he allegedly hacked her nearly to death with an ax, his girlfriend called him “Mr. 187” — street slang for murderer.

    [...]

The suspect, violent ex-convict Jerry Brown, 34, was charged early Sunday with murder, attempted murder, and criminal possession of a weapon, for the ax, police said.

More charges were still pending, law enforcement sources said.

Brown has 13 prior arrests, including for assault, robbery, burglary and strangulation, along with the more minor offenses of turnstile jumping and drinking in public, sources said.

    [...]

The suspect knew both women, police have said.

But social media posts show Brown was dating Valle as recently as last month.

Valle’s Facebook posts from November through March were filled with affection for her beau, who she calls “Grim Creepa.”

I haven't seen this kind of coverage in any other case! PIX11 News contacted the suspect and talked to him before he was arrested!

"PIX11 News reached out to Jerry via Facebook on Saturday afternoon. He called less than 10 minutes later....

...The boyfriend, who could be heard sniffling and crying on the phone call, wanted to know if his girlfriend was 'okay....'"

...'I will turn myself in. I'll call the police myself,' the boyfriend said with a quivering voice."

He told the reporter he said he doesn't remember what happened - he suffers from mental illness. Said he woke up on the floor of an apartment building, but doesn't know what building. He took an ambulance or taxi to the hospital because he had injuries.

Edited to add this from the link: " A police source confirmed the person of interest is the same person PIX11 spoke with earlier Saturday."

I wonder if that reporter will be called to testify... as the suspect pretty much gave the reporter a confession..

I'm curious if it will help or hinder the investigation?!

I don't see how it can hurt. Even if the interview can't be admitted as a confession, the evidence will be irrefutible, IMO. The 21 year-old woman gave police his name. Lord willing, she will survive and testify against him.

    [...]
She was able to tell medics two things before losing consciousness, the sources said.

One was that her ex-boyfriend had attacked her and her friend, who was still inside the eighth-floor apartment, the sources told The Post.

That's what I'm thinking - just not sure LE wants "meddling" like this. IDK?

The perp called the reporter himself, after he received a FB message - so that is good. He spoke with full knowledge, I'm assuming, that he was speaking to a reporter who would report what he said. He didn't have to make the phone call and he could've ended the call whenever he wanted.

Then again, LE uses interrogation methods for a reason, and not sure if the phone call messes that up for them? IDK.

Whatever the case, so glad he is in custody. What a dangerous man! Horrifyingly violent.

Is he saying he has a mental illness to set up a defense or does he really have a mental illness?

So a woman goes outside and flags an Uber to be taken to the hospital leaving her 4 year old child inside the apartment with a crazy man with an ax and another person that's probably dead?

NYPD rookie who refused to help EMS check on a child at a murder scene quits

    MAY 02, 2019

"A rookie cop, who refused to escort an FDNY Emergency Medical Services lieutenant to the scene of an ax murder — leaving a 4-year-old girl alone in a bloody Brooklyn apartment with a corpse — has quit the force, authorities said Thursday.

Sean Doohan turned in his gun and shield on April 27, one week after he ignored the request to check on the child in an eighth floor apartment in the Bushwick Houses on Flushing Ave. near Humboldt St., police said.

An EMS lieutenant asked Doohan, 26, and Officer Mary Sobieski to take them up to the murder scene out of concern that the killer was still around, sources said.

Because 83rd Precinct cops Doohan and Sobieski, 31, did nothing, a pre-schooler was left alone with the nearly decapitated body of Savannah Rivera, 20, for almost an hour, authorities said...."
