I recently watched the ID episode of Disappeared on Suzy Lyall who went missing from Albany, NY in 1998 and I tried to match up any possibles. I found the following UID that was located in 2002 in Hunter, NY that I could not find on websleuths so I created this post. What do you all think? I feel like there is a really strong resemblence. The reason I believe this is also possibly Suzy is that this UID was located in Hunter, NY which is only 1 hour 15 minutes from the center of Albany.

I would definitely submit, I see there are some variances with regards to the time, but I have seen so many cases solved where they just got it wrong, that I feel it is always better to be on the safe side. Please let us know.

    She looks good to me.
If the estimated time of death 1980-1990 is correct that is a discrepancy. I wonder what it is based on.

Thanks Distracted. I saw the discrepancies too but I was so in awe with how much the reconstruction looked like Suzy that I thought "maybe this is why she hasn't been identified before?" you never know...I submitted and will keep everyone updated.

I was really hopeful that this was a match, but I received this response from LE this morning:

this match has been ruled out. Thank you for your interest.

Suzy Lyall has been ruled out as being this decedent. But now the UID has been added to websleuths so maybe we can help find out who she is and bring her a name.

I think this is the same case in Namus, although I see Namus says the skull was found August 21, 2001 vs. August 15 of 2002, like Doe says. But both cases are white females in the same age range found on the same road in the same city and both are skull only.

    https://identifyus.org/en/cases/9803

No estimate in Namus of how long the skull had been there other than "years."

No rule-outs are showing in Namus.

    Wondering about Lois Darnopuk:

Lois's case says sample submitted but tests NOT complete. So this would not have been compared yet. There's really not a lot to go on, but Lois was from Brooklyn, NY and would have been in the right age range. Lois went missing in 1989.

    the facial comparison looks good.

as for there being one or two skulls, I don't know Irish. the Namus link you have says "Top portion of skull without bottom without mandible". I don't know if that is supposed to mean all but the mandible, i.e. they have the top teeth or whether it is literally only the top part of the skull itself with no teeth.

no dentals are noted but they also say not entered yet.

the Doe link for the original UID says dentals available so I don't know if we have one or two UIDs on the same road.

This also says 2002. Maybe a typo in Namus? Or two separate cases, but you'd think that two separate females, both skull only, both found in Hunter in consecutive years (and both in August), and both on the same road, and both deceased for many years....I just assume a bigger deal would have been made under those circumstances, or that Namus or Doe would have both cases, and not one each. Guess I'll have to call Namus and find out for sure...

I don't know how someone would make two mistakes, the day of the month and the year. I could understand if one said 8/15/2001 and the other said 8/15/2002, but one says 8/21/2001 and the other says 8/15/2002.

we have had other instances where we could not figure out if there were one or two bodies.

Has this PM been submitted? I think it looks good.

I noticed in Lois's NamUs file it still says Tests Not Complete, I wonder what is taking so long?

I guess it might have something to do with the notation in the "Investigating Agency" tab which says that Local PD doesn't have the resources to be the contact for this case. That annoyed me. From what I can tell, her family has lived and paid taxes there for quite some time, and has a right to their services. :banghead:

Just stumbled upon this thread when looking in the unidentified threads. I actually grew up in Hunter. Where the skull was found was near my uncle's and my other aunt's home; somewhere between there. My mother had overheard some talking about it and I have always wondered who's head this really is, and weird that they never found a body. I can ask her for more information on it and see if I can find any articles about it.
I always also wondered if it was related to a mafia kind of thing. There were a lot of bodies that got dumped around near Hunter, and I guess they were always labeled by the mob because they were known to do this thing where they would remove the heads, hands and feet of their victims and dump those parts separately from the rest of their bodies-- in fact, another one of my aunts who live nearby in Hunter had found someone's hands on her property. Don't think they ever matched up who's they were, either. Just hands. Odd stuff.

Have always wondered about this possibility -

Madelene Van Overdijk, reported missing Monday, 12 March 1973 (imo, find Monday missing reports to be questionable).

    https://secure.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/missing-disparus/search-recherche.jsf

    http://www.missing-u.ca/MPDetail.aspx?PersonID=832

Added the OPP site as it has more info that caught my eye - she reportedly had $150 Canadian dollars. Why would the currency be otherwise if she was going from Brantford, Ontario to Toronto for a day of shopping? Had she made a weekend trip to New York state?

Also find the clothing description for Madelene to be remarkable - I can watch my spouse walk out the door to run errands, go shopping, but would not be able to describe the clothing to a T 6 or 8 hours later if I had to. Jmo.

Submitted this once to Canadian and US LE - never heard back. The chances of Brantford Police having DNA for MVO would be slim to none.

Hello all - I found this thread, and wondered if anyone thinks that Denise Marie Overbaugh could be the Unidentified Female in the Doe network picture? The chin is what makes me wonder, and the time frame is feasible that if she went missing in 92, only a skull could be found in 2002. She was last seen in Kingston which is close enough to the dump site which was Platte Clove Rd. What do you think?

Wow, yeah. I can definitely see the possibility. Her high cheekbones seem to appear very similar as well as her chin structure!

I notice that they've done for this UID what I wish they'd do for all reconstructions: they show her with a variety of hair colors and styles: https://identifyus.org/en/cases/9803

This is absolutely true, but there are a lot of people from the city who come to Greene County for the summer (there are many people who rent for the summer or have condos). The area here is all people who know each other- and mostly everyone is related, so I personally think this woman isn't from the area and was dumped in the area. :(
