RIP Pretty Baby
There is a special place in hell for people who commit crimes like this one.
Who could lay a mean finger on that adorable, precious baby girl?
Why? What drives these losers? I am just heartbroken...
Such a sweet little girl. And all over a "soiling herself" incident.
I hope the law really starts holding the mothers responsible as well.
Unfortunate that he didn't succeed.
no major new facts at this link but another adorable pic of Jeida which CBS credits as being sourced from mom's FB, who is not a named POI therefore I will not link it.
Cops found the dying girl after a 911 caller reported bloodcurdling screams echoing from the apartment in a city homeless shelter at 38 Cooper St. shortly before 4 p.m., cops said.
Defenseless little Jeida Torres, 3, died at Wyckoff Hospital after her mother’s enraged boyfriend “punched and choked” the tiny child — who suffered injuries to her head and body, sources said.
“She either pooped her pants or peed on herself, and he got agitated,” a source said.
Neighbor Marilyn Cruz said the afternoon killing capped two solid weeks of fighting and violence inside the apartment.
Kelsey (a/k/a Shawn) Smith (photo courtesy of above link)
Smith, who has a criminal record, tried to commit suicide by cutting himself but failed, the newspaper reported.
He fled the scene of the alleged beating but was arrested in Queens after someone tipped police off, according to the Daily News.
He remained in custody late Saturday night but has not been charged with a crime.

From the article: "Cop sources say the brute, who has 15 prior arrests dating back to 2008, also battered Andrew during the vicious attack in the second-story Bushwick apartment."
Wow, 15 arrests within 6 years and Kelsey Smith is only 20 yrs old. I wonder what Mr. Smith was previously arrested for. Sad for the girl and her family and I hope her brother fully recovers. Rest in Peace Jeida.
Why oh why do these women 'mothers' continue bringing these men with a long rap sheet and anger management issues around their children?
It seems we are reading these incidents of children being murdered by moms boyfriend or a step dad over potty training incidents over and over and over. When the he77 is it going to stop?
It's not like he hid this side of himself from his wife - the childrens 'mother'. yet, she and the children stayed. What is it these women take in these men, who don't work, rely on them to watch the children and lose them to murder over and over and over. At some point these mothers need to be held accountable for bringing these 'men' into their childrens lives.
And as for Uncle A who commented about sometimes having to discipline a child and this being discipline gone wrong. That is fully BS! Beating a child, punching, kicking and choking a child IS NOT DISCIPLINE, IT IS ABUSE! Plain and simple. Shame on him for minimizing his nephews actions by calling it discipline. Children do not need to be disciplined for actions which come natural and are age appropriate. Accidents are appropriate for the victims age.
Such a shame this had to happen yet again. Sleep peacefully little Jeida. No one will ever hurt you again.
And for his comment about his nephew being a kid because he is 20, BS! He is legally an adult. More minimization. Perhaps this is why this keeps happening, it is minimized too often.
R.I.P It is beyond me how someone could harm a child
As a society, we need to figure out better ways to protect children. There are different factors that result in these tragedies and in hindsight there are things that parents, neighbors and society could have done to keep children safe, it's just heartbreaking. jmo
He shouldn't even have been loose.
Hope he pays for killing this lil angel r.i.p Jeida, LWOP

The little boy is still hospitalized, but apparently doing better. From same link:

* Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about Jeida.
From the same article: "His wife, Kimberly Torres, told cops that Smith called her and “stated that defendant ‘f---ed up’ and hit Jeida Torres and that Jeida Torres was not breathing,” according to the criminal complaint." bbm
Somehow using that phrase to describe murdering Jeida rings hollow to me; it's a more appropriate phrase for cheating on a partner or car accident...but murdering a little girl it is just bizarre, imo. The whole thing is tragic, but it's good to hear Jeida's brother is physically improving and will get counseling according to his bio father in article.
