Trail cold, cops transfer Josh Rubin case to ‘Missing Persons’

By Eli Rosenberg

The Brooklyn Paper

The case of the vanished Ditmas Park cafe owner has been transferred to the NYPD’s “Missing Persons” division, a sign that cops no longer believe that the disappearance is a criminal matter, The Brooklyn Paper has learned.

------from the article------
Here's a timeline of developments in the case based on multiple stories published by The Brooklyn Paper after Rubin vanished:

Nov. 4: Friends say Rubin was under financial pressure and suffering from mental anguish. His business had only been open for two months but he was reportedly worried about falling behind in rent payments and was considering selling the cafe.

Nov. 7: Friends, family and neighbors in Brooklyn's Ditmas Park organized a search for Rubin and posted fliers throughout their community.

Nov. 14: A neighbor said Rubin had arranged to sublet his room and may have been planning an escape from his new business and financial problems.

Nov. 18: Rubin's family decided to break their silence and ask media to help publicize the disappearance.

Nov. 20: Rubin's family hired a private investigator to search hotels, homeless shelters and even Zuccotti Park, where the Occupy Wall Street protestors camped.

Dec. 5: New York Police said the trail had gone cold and referred the case to their Missing Persons division.

It sounds like the family and friends still don't have a lot of closure, as there is a lot still unknown about what happened to Josh. Hope there are some answers soon.

The Josh Rubin case was seemingly going nowhere. But recently photos were released of persons of interest, and they are relatively clear. Someone out there has to know who these people are.

Investigators are looking for two men they say used slain Ditmas Park [Brooklyn, NY] cafe owner Josh Rubin’s credit cards less than 12 hours after the 30-year-old businessman was found dead in Pennsylvania — a duo cops hope will help them crack this cold case wide open.

Police said the two men used the credit cards at the Woodbury Commons Outlet mall in Central Valley, New York on Nov. 1 — more than 100 miles from where Rubin’s body was discovered. The two men, who appear to be in their late teens or early 20s, were captured on surveillance cameras as they made multiple purchases at several stores in the mall, investigators claim.

Hopefully, someone will recognize them.

Wow those photos are clear aren't they! You know someone knows these guys.

:bump: for Josh . . . he deserves justice!

Snipped:

The crew was on Applewood Drive, a quiet road running through a 70-acre apple orchard, when they spotted smoke. At first they figured it was another downed powerline.

The smoke came from a burning human body.

Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim would rule that the victim had died of a single gunshot wound to the chest, then been set on fire. The man had been burned so badly that his fingerprints were gone, making identification difficult.

That is a clear photo of the suspects. I hope it is posted statewide and throughout the tri-state area. Someone should recognize them.

Trio busted in 2011 cold-case murder of Brooklyn cafe owner

<snip> NYPD officers and federal authorities arrested Kevin Taylor, 27, Gary Robles, 37, and Michael Mazur, 26, for the killing of 30-year-old Joshua Rubin, whose burned body was found in the woods outside Allentown, Pennsylvania, on Nov. 1, 2011.

The trio allegedly shot Rubin the day before on McDonald Avenue near Lawrence Avenue in Brooklyn as they attempted to rob him of pot, authorities said.

The suspects were charged with murder in Manhattan federal court, according to an indictment unsealed on Tuesday.
