GUILTY NY - Lesandro Guzman-Feliz, 15, murdered by gang-caught on video, Bronx, 20 June 2018 *arrests*

'Junior' Guzman-Feliz 'begged for his life,' prosecutor says as murder trial begins

May 6, 2019

"A witness detailed Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz's last moments on Monday as the trial started for five of the suspects charged with his death, nearly a year after the teenager was dragged from a bodega in the Bronx and fatally stabbed.

Tamika Jones, 21, said she screamed from the open window of her fifth-floor apartment for Guzman-Feliz to run to the nearby hospital as he looked up at her moments after he had been stabbed in the neck.

"By the time we got downstairs, he was already in front of the hospital, collapsed," Jones testified. "One of my friends took off her shirt and put it against his neck to try and stop the bleeding. He had blood all over his body. He was trying to stay alive, holding his wound himself. His last words were water — he asked for water." ...

Jones testified that she watched several men who were speaking Spanish drag Guzman-Feliz from the bodega, adding that she heard one shout that they needed to bring him on to the street because "there's cameras in there." ..."

'Junior' Guzman-Feliz 'begged for his life': Prosecutor

So incredibly sad. This poor young woman having to talk about his last words/request. This poor child begging for his life, never to know that it was mistaken identity (not that it should happen to anyone, anyway). Such senseless violence. For the gang members who were afraid "not to carry out orders" the terror is there for them but they had a choice.

Jurors To See Bodega Surveillance Video Today In ‘Justice For Junior’ Trial (with clip)

May 7, 2019

"...Guzman-Feliz’s mother walked into the courtroom full of supporters, all shouting the same three words: Justice for Junior....

Defense attorneys for the five men facing murder and manslaughter charges argued in opening statements that Guzman-Feliz died from a knife in his neck, and that the defendants did not kill him or want to kill him – they only made it look like they hurt him to appease the gang’s leader.

The victim’s sister-in-law didn’t buy it.

“How do you go to a fight with knives if it’s not intent to kill?” Ione Gutierrez asked reporters outside court.
At one point during the trial, Guzman-Feliz’s supporters say a defendant looked back at the family.

“Laughing, literately laughing in their face. And I’m like, what’s wrong with this guy?” said family friend Ilene Mariez. “The father just got up and outburst using profanity at them, so they just pulled him out of the courtroom.”...

“They didn’t feel like no remorse. They’re like, ‘OK, we did it, so what,’” he said. “Excuse me, this is so painful, it is, honestly.”"

Gasps, Tears as Never-Before-Seen Video of Attack Presented on Day 2 of NYC Machete Killing Trial (with clip)
The second day of trial included even more stunning witness testimony

May 7, 2019

"...The second day of trial in the killing of Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz was emotional and filled with graphic video and photos.

Prosecutors introduced three clips of video. Two of the clips were taken by cell phone and show Guzman-Feliz outside the hospital and a high angle shot of the attack. The third clip is surveillance video outside the hospital.

One such graphic video presented was from the NYPD camera at the corner of Bathgate and 183rd Street in the Bronx — a corner that now bears Guzman-Feliz's name. The footage, which was never released publicly, shows the attack. The video showcases the attackers dragging Guzman-Feliz out of the bodega as he tries to fight back as the mob swings knives at him.

The graphic footage prompted Guzman-Feliz’s mother and several supporters to break down — a gasp was even heard in the courtroom....

For a second day, a witness detailed more of Guzman-Feliz’s final moments.

The witness took the stand testifying how she tried to keep Guzman-Feliz alive by talking to him, adding that her friend took off their shirt in an effort to help stop the bleeding....

Following her testimony Monday, it came to light that the district attorney's office placed the witness in protective custody after her name was released by some media outlets...."

Junior’s mom weeps, ‘nearly collapses’ after new surveillance video played at trial shows teen’s stabbing :(

MAY 7, 2019

"THE BRONX — The weeping mother of the slain 15-year-old Lesandro “Junior” Guzman Feliz “nearly collapsed” in court, according to a family friend, after watching the first surveillance of her son’s fatal stabbing played on Day 2 of the murder trial against five defendants.

Leandra Feliz was “devastated,” said her friend, Jennifer.

PIX11 was in court as Feliz held her hand to her mouth, bracing for the second when her son would be dragged from the Cruz & Chiky bodega on Bathgate Avenue on June 20, 2018.

Police Officer Eric Helguero introduced the evidence, which hadn’t been featured on TV before...."

‘So frustrating’: Junior’s mother speaks about emotional day in court after new video shows teen’s last moments (with clip)

MAY 7, 2019

"...the prosecution team showed four different videos, one of which PIX11 News has shown in the past. It was recorded by cell phone by a resident who lives above the Cruz & Chiky bodega in the Belmont section of the Bronx, where Junior was fatally attacked the night of June 20, 2018.

The video shows a group of men -- all admitted members of the Trinitarios gang -- kicking, beating, and then fatally stabbing the teen who they mistook for a member of a rival Trinitarios gang faction.

The same attack was captured in remarkably clear and in-color detail on two NYPD surveillance videos shown in the courtroom. It was the first time the videos had been seen in any public setting, and their effect was emotionally powerful.

"I'm a mom of a nine-year-old," Elizabeth De Jesus, a supporter of Junior's family, said as she wiped tears from her eyes outside of court during the lunch break. "It's too much.. too much right now."

Also during the lunch break, Junior's mother, Leandra Feliz, left the courtroom, clearly affected by what she'd seen.
"It was so frustrating," Feliz said in an interview at the end of the court day. "I still feel some kind of out of mind."
Jennifer Weisel, a friend of Feliz, sat next to Junior's mother as the killing played out in front of their eyes.

"She looked absolutely devastated," Weisel told PIX11 News. "Like she was going to pass out. They had to basically almost carry her out of the courtroom."

Victims' advocates comforted Feliz as she left the courtroom for the midday break. One woman in the court gallery had to leave the courtroom as some of the videos played. She was hyperventilating and weeping...."

Lawyers for accused bodega killers say The Post spread ‘falsehoods’

May 7, 2019

"Defense lawyers for the gang-bangers on trial in the murder of an innocent teen at a Bronx bodega used The Post as a prop in court on Tuesday to try and make the argument that a gag order should be lifted.

Defense lawyer Toni Messina unsuccessfully demanded Judge Robert Neary remove the order, accusing The Post and other media of spreading “falsehoods” in reporting on the victim’s brother saying that the killers mocked the family in court...."

It was good others tried to help him, and he wasn't alone at the end. :(

At least the defendants cannot claim that they had ineffective counsel.....I am dumbfounded that any attorney would claim this. Still hoping there are no further talks for deals.

In my school there is still fear of this gang. We are within blocks of where this horrible murder occurred.

"Five defense attorneys also spoke Monday, four of whom described most of Guzman-Feliz's wounds as superficial and said it was the one cut to the throat that killed him. The defense attorney for the man who allegedly dealt that throat cut took offense at that." Never-Before-Seen Attack Video Shown at Machete Murder Trial

Alvarez is expected to talk about his role in the chase and killing of 15-year-old Lesandro “Junior” Guzman Feliz, who was perceived by a pack of alleged Trinitarios gang members to be a rival....

He could take the stand by late Friday, although it’s more likely he will testify early next week...."

‘It’s torture. It’s too much’: Junior’s mom flees court to avoid seeing infamous video of son dragged from bodega (with clip)

MAY 9, 2019

"THE BRONX -- Leandra Feliz had already seen enough.

So before a jury was shown the infamous surveillance footage of her 15-year-old son “Junior” being dragged from a Bronx bodega to his brutal death, she left the courtroom.

Leandra Feliz leaned against a wall in a court vestibule, while various camera angles of the disturbing surveillance was played for the jury of 11 women and one man.

Television and social media viewers have seen it countless times....

Junior’s father remained in the courtroom to watch the footage from the bodega.

He and Junior’s mother were later escorted out of the courthouse at the end of Thursday’s session, surrounded by state court officers and police detectives.
When asked why she hadn’t stayed in court to watch the surveillance, Junior’s mother said, “It’s torture. It’s too much.”"

‘Junior’ murder defendant gets sick, stalling trial as week 1 featured teen’s dying words, dramatic DNA testimony

MAY 10, 2019

"THE BRONX — The buzz in the Bronx courthouse Friday by people connected to the “Junior” case was that murder defendant Elvin Garcia got sick....

But Judge Robert Neary didn’t reveal too much, when he told the jury at noon, “Let the record reflect the defendants are not produced. My understanding is two of the defendants are unavailable to come today for various reasons, one because of health.”

And with that, Day 4 in the Junior trial was canceled, with testimony expected to resume next Tuesday.

PIX11 later learned Garcia did indeed have some kind of medical issue and had not been medically cleared to come to court...."

May 14, 2019

"THE BRONX -
Leandra Feliz and Lisandro Guzman were on the stand Tuesday – hoping that another day of torment will bring them another step closer to justice for their son, Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz.

Prosecutors used the testimony of Detective Francis Orlando to establish who they believe is each of the five defendants facing murder charges. They showed the jury their mugshots next to freeze frames of each accused attacker taken from surveillance video captured the night of Junior's stabbing last June in Belmont.

Counsel for the defendants objected, citing improper identification because the detective was only present to pull screen grabs of the suspects from the video. They say he was not present when the video was recorded at the scene....

Testimony continues Thursday."

A lot of men up for murder charges! I wonder if this is one of the biggest cases (because of so many perps) in recent years, or if having gang- related murder trials are more common than we might think?
I think Justice for Junior will be served. They appear to have a mega amount of evidence...
