One of the items of jewelry she had on was a gold diamond engagement ring.

Was this a ring from a previous relationship or is she engaged?

She looks like such a sweet person. This is terrible. Prayers for Lori.

It sounds to me like she left North Syracuse to "go home" for some reason. What was she trying to get away from? Odd time of the year to move...didn't wait till the end of the school year...

I think there's a man in Syracuse that didn't want to let her go...... :(

It's been almost a month since Lori Leonard vanished, but her family is fighting to make sure nobody forgets who she is.

"We're doing anything we can do. We're putting posters up and contacting Lori's friends to see if they know anything," said Jennifer Leonard.

Now, a lead in the case, culled from hundreds of tips pouring into Chittenango Police.

"Chittenango Police are looking for a late model silver Dodge Dakota which may have been driven from Chittenango to Albany on May 4th," said Chief Jeff Paul.

It was May 4th when the 33 year-old mother of two planned a drive to Albany to pick up Yankee tickets from a friend.

That's where they believe the truck was headed.

"This truck is very important to us," Paul said.

Investigators say there are no indications foul play. Still, they're calling the driver, a 20 to 30 year old man, a person of interest.

Lori's family says the description of the truck or the driver doesn't ring a bell.

"She wouldn't ever leave," Jennifer Leonard said.

The search for Lori Leonard has been a daunting one for Chittenango Police.

They say they've been stretched by the entire investigation.

Even so, family members continue to post thousands of flyers in the search for answers. Especially answers for the people most affected by Lori Leonard's disappearance, her two sons.

"They're scared. The oldest one is more aware of what's going on. The younger one is just starting to realize it," Leonard said.

But for now, they continue to play perhaps the most heart-wrenching waiting game of their lives.

The reward for Lori Leonard's safe return has increased.

A California charity kicked in an additional $5,000 yesterday, bringing the total to $85 hundred dollars.

If you have any information in this case you're asked to contact Chittenango Police at 315-687-3930.

She was the mother of two young boys? Loving mothers of young children don't leave home voluntarily.

Exactly! I still say there's a man in Syracuse that didn't want her moving back to her hometown. There's somebody she wanted to get away from, IMHO and he abducted her.

Man didn’t pass lie detector test
    Posted: 07/01/05 at 08:23AM

    By DON LEHMAN dlehman@poststar.com

Published on 7/1/2005 HUDSON FALLS -- The Hudson Falls man considered a "person of interest" in the suspicious disappearance of a central New York woman did not pass a lie detector test in the case, police said Thursday.

The man's mother told The Post-Star on Wednesday he passed a polygraph test as part of a police investigation into the disappearance of Chittenango (Madison County) resident Lori A. Leonard.

But Wade Irwin, the Chittenango Police Department detective heading the investigation, said it was "not accurate" that he passed the test. He would not comment further.

Leonard, a 33-year-old mother of two young boys, and the Hudson Falls man had dated for several months after meeting on the Internet was the last person seen with her.

Leonard was last seen in Chittenango on May 4, the day the local man -- a convicted felon on probation -- drove to Chittenango to help her move from one apartment to another. Her car remained at her home, and police consider her an "endangered" missing person.

The Post-Star is withholding the man's name because he has not been charged in the case.

Police revealed Thursday that in recent weeks, they have searched properties the man's family owns, including his Hudson Falls home and a seasonal cabin relatives of his own, which Irwin said was either in Essex or Hamilton county. Irwin said the man's family was cooperative, and police found no evidence linked to Leonard's disappearance.

Irwin said police in central New York are working with their counterparts in Washington County to find places the Hudson Falls man frequents.

"We're still trying to identify places he knows," Irwin said. "It's been difficult, because we have a pretty large crime scene, if you want to call it that. It's 147 miles from Chittenango to Hudson Falls."

They also have circulated pictures of his pickup truck in an effort to find people who saw it in Chittenango and Washington County that day.

Several dozen of Leonard's friends and relatives are coming to Hudson Falls on Saturday to hold a rally on Main Street to try to generate information in the case, her sister, Jennifer Leonard said. Details of the event were still being finalized on Thursday, she said.

Hudson Falls Deputy Police Chief Randy Diamond said village police had made plans to deal with the expected influx of people for the event.

"We're aware of it, and we'll certainly monitor it," Diamond said.

Among those organizing the rally is a local woman whose daughter dated the Hudson Falls man and was assaulted by him in 2000, Jennifer Leonard said.

He was initially charged with unlawful imprisonment in the case but was convicted of third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, and served 3 years on probation, court records show.

Court records show the victim told police he attacked her while she slept early one morning after the relationship ended, binding the woman's hands and feet with duct tape and shoelaces. He was choking her when relatives interrupted the attack.

He also was convicted of felony attempted cocaine possession in Warren County Court in 2002 and sentenced to 5 years on probation, 8 weekends in jail and 200 hours of community service. His probation was transferred to Washington County, where he remains under supervision.

The man also has prior arrests for menacing in 1996 and drunken driving in 1997 and 2001, court records show.

Messages left for him at his home were not returned Wednesday or Thursday, though his mother and grandfather told a reporter Wednesday he had nothing to do with Lori Leonard's disappearance.

The man's lawyer, Patrick Barber, would not discuss the case Thursday

Missing woman found dead in barge canal

    July 25, 2005

HUDSON FALLS, N.Y. -- The body of a missing central New York woman has been found in the Champlain Canal in eastern New York, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

The body was found Sunday near Hudson Falls, about 50 miles north of Albany, in a floating box by a boater, State Police said.

Authorities say the remains were identified in an autopsy as Lori A. Leonard. The 33-year-old Chittenango woman was last seen May 4 and had planned to travel to the Albany area.

Chittenango police said they consider a 29-year-old man from Hudson Falls that Leonard met online to be a "person of interest" in the investigation, officer Rod Carr told the Post-Standard of Syracuse.

It was confirmed last night and the family wanted to keep it quiet for as long as possible so they could grieve in peace, but apparently the media got ahold it.

Prayers for Lori and her family,

    Ex-boyfriend arrested
    Updated: 7/25/2005 11:33 PM
By: Al Nall, News 10 Now Web Staff

The Washington County Sheriff's Department confirms Shawn Doyle, Leonard's ex-boyfriend, is in custody and was arraigned late Monday night. He is charged with second degree murder.

A boater found Leonard's body Sunday floating in the Champlain canal in Hudson Falls. The Post-Star in Glens Falls says her body was discovered in a tool box along with a sandbag used to weigh it down. Investigators say they have evidence linking Doyle to that tool box.

The arrest culminates a 3 month long investigation into Leonard's disappearance.

Officials with the Washington County Sheriff's Department confirm Lori Leonard's ex-boyfriend was arrested Monday night in connection with her death. Shawn Doyle was arraigned Monday night on second-degree murder charges. The Glens Falls Post-Star reports investigators linked him to the tool box she was found in in the Champlain Canal through items found in his truck. News 10 Now's Al Nall reports.

Chittenango Police personally informed Leonard's family of the discovery of her body and visited with them again Monday night.

"We sat down with her mother and her sister last night about 11:30 p.m. and obviously they’re very grief stricken at this time and they’re in a period of mourning. Our hearts go out to them,” said Chittenango Police Chief Jeffrey Paul.

The Washington County Sheriff's Department will hold a news conference on the case at 10:00 Tuesday morning.
