According to NamUs, Ovetsky's DNA has been submitted, type unspecified:
https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/6478/0/

The UID lists both types of DNA available (https://identifyus.org/cases/2872) so there should have been a comparison no matter which DNA Ovetsky has. So I think this is probably a ruleout by default?

Thank you carbuff. Ive only been with websleuths a short period of time and within that time frame Ive realized the negative aspects of the databases we rely so heavily on. If only all the case managers/detectives od these cases were equipped to update the technological databases accordingly. Here is a statement I find interesting on Namus's official website.

Through NamUs, a diverse community of criminal justice professionals, medical examiners and coroners, victim advocates, families of missing persons, and the general public now can contribute to solving these cases.

Its a slow process, we are witnessing history in the making obviously...

It's excruciatingly slow sometimes. The whole system is so overloaded.

There have been reports of false negatives from the DNA matching system, so if you feel strongly this could be a match, it might be worth contacting people to see about having them compared by hand.

Glad you're here!

Well, I know the dates on perfect. Holly has been missing since 1995, but the general description, height, hair, etc seems a match. Interestingly, her bank card was illegally used in NY state shortly after her disappearance.

Thoughts?

I can't figure out how to attach the pic, just the link. Sorry.

That is a great resemblance.

But she would have been 23 at the time of Jane Doe's death. That is well above the 13-16 estimated age. While age estimates are frequently wrong, they are very rarely that far off when a person is estimated to be in the low-teens.

Elizabeth Ernstein (found in 1969) was the only exception I can think of where a teenager's age was over-estimated. And that case, they not only screwed up badly on her age, but also on her gender.

Could she have been in the water longer than originally thought I wonder?

Bump!

Just a brief summary of her dental chart: none of her wisdom teeth had erupted. There are a lot of teeth post-portum missing, but none of those present have had any work done on them.

Perfect Thyroid's website is on the Internet Archive - http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.perfectthyroid.com. There is a gap between November 1999 and May 2000 (when the UID was found) on their tour page; however, it appears they held a concert in New York City in December. There are also links to concert photos, however many of them are broken; I wonder if any of the band members or fans still have them. According to the article linked earlier in this thread, their production company was contacted.

I wonder if someone she was staying with disagreed with her lifestyle for some reason and led to what happened - it doesn't look like her case had any publicity for someone her age, not even on WS. Surely alerting people who were active in NYC music scene in that time would bring at least some leads.

I think Amber's nose is too wide--and how does a 10 year old get to NYC!

But anything could happen.

However, when JD died, Amber would be in the age range of her.

The Charley Project lists Amber as Caucasian, but I wonder if she has relatives of a different race.

i wanted to chime in. the UID was wearing boxers and a sports bra. I suspect she was possibly lesbian. due to her age, maybe she was just coming out, met with disapproval from parents and ran away?

I think stereotypes do exist for a reason, so I certainly see that being the case.

I wonder if there are any parents in NYC now, after coming to their senses, are looking for a daughter. My other thought is that her parents simply didn't know how to report her missing. Just look at NamUs. Old cases are added all the time.

I too was thinking that she perhaps identified as male due to the clothing. I wonder if she ran away from an unsupportive home environment, and later came to New York. There is a large homeless LGBT youth population there.

I always thought she was just a young tomboy. But, that's a valid possibility. Time to check the databases!
