NY NY - Plum Island, BlkMale 45-65, UP6618, @ disease lab site, prior neurosurgery, meds, Jan'10

Good find, Chandelier. Hargrove matches down to the gray stubble.

The early reports mentioned that the dead man had very long fingers. Hargrove's picture appears to show a man with long fingers.

"Cognitive impairment" could refer to TBI. Thoughts?

Yes, someone with TBI could have a cognitive impairment. Cognitive issues aren't the only symptoms that could trigger a TBI diagnosis, and TBI isn't the only thing that could cause a cognitive impairment, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone who had a head injury serious enough to warrant neurosurgery would have a cognitive impairment.

I agree this is a great prospect. Chandelier, did you call it in?

If they are the same person, I wonder how someone from as far away as Henderson, NC would end up in a current that would lead to Plum Island, especially if he was, as it sounds, a dependent.

The currents from the gulf stream sweep straight up from North Carolina to the Long Island-Rhode Island-southern MA coast. It's the track so many nor'easters take as well. It's not that unusual to have bodies from farther south wash up in this area, especially after major storms. As I recall there had been a couple of bad ones before Christmas that year. I'll have to go look that up.

That's interesting to know (about the currents). I was also wondering about getting from Henderson to the coast. Henderson is quite a way inland. Of course, he could have hitched a ride, taken a bus, driven, etc.

There is a much younger man from the same town with the same name who is a registered sex offender. I wonder if the younger man is his son.

Regarding the Stacy Adams belt, I am guessing it is Stacy Adams Brand. Their belts have the inscription on the buckle. Get this -- a retailer in Henderson, NC specifically sells Stacy Adams belts (not their other products). The closest retailer I could find to that part of NY that sells their belts (versus other products) was in Westerly, RI (although that's coastal so that would make more sense in terms of a body showing up in NY).

I was totally picturing army green cargo pants, but there is a brand God Body Streetwear (now defunct) that makes/made bright green cargo pants:

I know Target has a couple items that are CHOR brand, and the boxers are sold at Walmart (Puritan brand). Target & Walmart are both 45-50 min away from Henderson, but who knows.

I didn't call it in... I don't know how! Would someone else mind doing it, if you feel it's a (decently) good match?

I emailed Lori Bruski, who is still listed as the regional coordinator. There is a forensic specialist/medical examiner listed as in charge, but I could not find an email address for him. If i don't get confirmation that Ms. Bruski has received my message in a week or so, I'll call him, but I felt that it was pretty likely she would forward the message and it was a lot easier to give the links in an email than try to describe them in a voicemail.

Poor man. Let's hope.

Ms. Bruski replied very promptly when I submitted the missing fisherman. Very polite, friendly, and appreciative.

If he had a head injury and indications of neurosurgery, that could mean he developed seizures as a consequence of the accident?

my son has had neurosurgery twice due to a brain injury from birth, he then had seizures and got hydracephalus. the surgery was to place a shunt at age 3 weeks. he had a shunt revision at age 12. he was on seizure meds until he was a teen and he diddnt want to take them anymore, he no longer has them.

it would be interesting if he had a shunt. i wonder if they would release that info.

Dilantin is sometimes used in patients with intercranial hypertension. Also... the description of long fingers makes me think Marfan Syndrome or Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which are both conditions that can go along with Intercranial Hypertension, Hydrocephalus and Chiari Malformation (among a few other brain conditions) that can require surgery and can sometimes cause seizures as well.

Chandelier, I Lori Bruski agreed that it was a great suggestion and said:

"I have asked our North Carolina RSA to notify the investigator for Mr. Hargrove and try to update NamUs with his biometric data.

I have also forwarded this to the Suffolk County ME’s office so they are aware as well."

I wrote back and told her that I wish I could take the credit but that someone else on WS had noticed the similarity.

Good work!

No updates to this Namus case for 8 years. Mr Hargrove (suggested above) has one ruleout listed against his MP record, but it's not this UID.
