I would really like to know where she was.

I would too. But in one of the most recent articles they said a witness came forward who said he drove Rachael to a camp belonging to one of her boyfriend's relatives. I would speculate that's where she remained the entire time. IMO.

The only thing I can think of her stealing are drugs like oxy or codeine. I don't think any of her patients were likely to have adderall (or any other uppers I can think of). She might have been stealing to sell or stealing to take - some addicts and users will take whatever is available.

My friends mom has MS and she used to (still might idk) take provigil which is a controlled substance to help you stay awake. I would also think meds like Valium and Xanax would be desirable to help come down off of uppers. Totally agree that many users will take whatever they can get their hands on in order to get high. Addiction is a scary disease. Just my opinions of course.

I don't like becoming so suspicious, but this case sure hasn't helped me trust more.

I'm not accusing here, I'm just voicing a feeling I had looking back. At some point towards the end of those two weeks of the search, I started to get the feeling her mother wasn't as frantic. I wonder if RM hadn't contacted her mother. Now, with the mother insisting she'll go to her grave believing her daughter's story over LE...it has me uncomfortable. Just voicing some stray thoughts. On the other hand, suppose there really is a santa perp, then won't we all feel terrible...but sorry, I just don't believe in santa anymore.

Mattice's mother, Wendy Mattice, said she stands with her daughter.

"I don't believe she made the story up," said her mother. "When she was dropped off at home, she ran to the house. I wish I had a camera to show you what she looked like. She looked like hell. She lost 10 pounds. The whole thing pisses me off because we don't have the money to fight this. But I will stick with my daughter until my grave. There is someone out there watching my daughter. The police will be sorry when someone else is kidnapped."

Soon after her return home, Mattice's family hired an attorney, whose name has not been disclosed.

Lost ten pounds, but how?

On July 18, police say a witness came forward and told them that he gave Rachael a ride to a camp in Canada Lake, N.Y., which belonged to the boyfriend of Rachael’s aunt. Police say Rachael has frequented the camp and knows the area well.
Two other hikers, according to police, were able to verify the driver’s account.

Disgusting, people actually go missing, people are destroyed when their lived ones disappear.

This woman makes it more and more difficult for those who are actually missing due to nefarious circumstances.

I hope she get's what should be coming.

So many of us here know how tragic it may become when someone goes missing. It would be a learning experience if she followed a few of the missing cases on WS that turned heartbreaking. I hope she learns something valuable from this and starts giving back.

Pulling a hoax takes away from the next missing person. Some end in such absolute heartbreak. I guess a very recent one comes to mind Sierah Joughin, 20, Fulton County, Ohio found deceased. She went missing in an instant. The reality is so many missing cases have very sad endings.

I hope her mother accepts the LE's evidence because supporting what is proving to be lies is not the right thing to do.

I really tried to give her the benefit of doubt. I'm glad she's safe, but IMHO 1) she has "issues" and needs help, 2) she's immature and made a stupid decision to hide, but needs to become an adult and come clean, 3) she knew she was under investigation for theft and this was an attempt to deflect attention away from that -- or any combination of the three.

In my dream world, if a person willfully* creates a situation in which financial resources are spent (wasted), they should have to do some sort of restitution or community services. Obviously, she wouldn't be able to pay the six-figures, but it would be a start and perhaps deter someone else from pulling a similar stunt. (*by "willfully" I do not mean someone who have psychological/mental issues.) JMHO

OT (but only kind of): another local girl has faked her abduction. I truly hope Rachael did not inspire her and that this is not a trend we see in our young ladies around here.

In other news, this mom is on point.

Edit to add: sorry, this is not local. I thought it was because it was shared by my local news but now I see it is in South Carolina. Regardless, my other points still stand.
