BEACHWOOD, Ohio -- Aliza Sherman was a beloved figure in her neighborhood, chatting up neighbors while walking the dog and marking birthdays with a gift.

That's why her violent death Sunday in downtown Cleveland is a shock to her neighbors, and to friends in the Jewish community.

Many of them sat with heavy hearts at sundown Monday to celebrate the start of Passover.

"She was well-loved," said neighbor Richard Katz. "No one will have a bad thing to say about her, I promise you that.

according to comments in the article the nearby galleria has video of the whole thing and have turned it over to the police. should be interesting. at first glance seems to be fairly obvious what went down.

Buried int he story it says that the soon-to-be ex-husband was a retired physician and CURRENTLY makes his living ($25k/year if I read it correctly) as a day trader.

    Nothing suspicious there................

who sees their attorney on a Sunday?

    appears the divorce was contested.

"Aliza and her husband Sanford Sherman were due in court Tuesday March 26 for a contested divorce trial. "We all know she was having some issues, you know, martial issues at this point. That's been going on for a long time," said Goldfarb. "She was, as anybody else would be very upset about that. Those things were never easy."

Apparently the law firm representing her is a high profile firm and meeting clients to prepare for court appearances on weekends wasn't unusual. At least that's what I gathered from the comments on the original article I posted.

Updated article, she was stabbed 11 times. Not much is being said about the estranged husband's whereabouts, was he in Cleveland or in Boca Raton? Was he capable of such violence, or did he hire someone? I don't have any knowledge of the practices of hit men, but it would seem a stabbing wouldn't be their killing of choice since it's so messy.

Not uncommon to meet clients on weekends, particularly in criminal or domestic cases.

"We're keeping a lot of information we have under wraps because the way in which the investigation is going," said Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson.

Police have yet to release any description of a suspect. The manager of the Galleria told NewsChannel5 he turned over surveillance video showing the attack to police, but no images of that video were also released to the public.

A Facebook page "Justice for Aliza Sherman" has been created in hopes it will help lead to information about the person who brutally murdered the Cleveland Clinic nurse downtown.

Those running the community Facebook page, which has more than 1,500 likes, hopes this avenue can help solve Sherman's brutal murder.

Those who knew the couple say the divorce process, like their marriage, was not going smoothly. Since late 2000, 22 incidents associated with Sherman’s address were reported to police in suburban Beachwood, most involving claims of domestic disturbance.

In October, police were summoned over concerns for the welfare of household pets because of Sanford Sherman’s actions. One police report involved claims that one of the couple’s sons had locked himself in his bedroom as a result of fighting between his parents. Several reports involved heated arguments between the couple.

A gathering of about 250 people turned out Sunday, May 12, on what started out as a cool, cloudy, windy and wet afternoon to show support for slain nurse Aliza Sherman.

In the parking lot of the Cleveland Clinic building, just before the red balloons were launched just after 4 p.m., event co-organizer Dani Horwitz told those assembled that there was no news as to the police investigation.
Horwitz urged people to call Cleveland police.
"The more phone calls the better," Horwitz said. "We need to keep this case relevant."
After the balloons were released, the assembled chanted several times, "Justice for Aliza."

I'm wondering how much her husband was going to lose if the divorce happened?
