Sikh temple leader: Shooting victims were 'beautiful family'

WEST CHESTER TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The four people who were found dead in a West Chester apartment Sunday night were active members of a local Sikh temple and at least some of them had attended services earlier that day.

Jasminder Singh, president of the Gurudwara of Cincinnati, said one of the victims was a great dad, grandfather and friend he'd known for 11 years. The man had at least three grandchildren, as well as brothers in India.

The search for a killer after 4 members of same family found dead

In a 911 call released by police, an emotional family member tells a dispatcher he came home to find his wife and three other family members bleeding.
[...]
Police confirmed the caller was a family member that discovered the victims. The caller was not taken into custody, police said.

Two neighbors also called 911.
[...]
Multiple police agencies are canvasing the area for witnesses and are using every resource they have, Herzog said.

"We have plenty of witnesses so far that have come forward of what they've heard and what they saw, and we're compiling all that now and following up on those leads," Herzog said.
[...]
In the last 10 years, there have been calls to police at the apartment for assault reports and theft, Herzog said. He said it's unclear if the victims lived there when the calls were made since it was over a period of a several years.

Police said children do live in the home, but weren't there at the time of the shooting and are currently with other family members.

"Four members of a Sikh family were found dead in a West Chester apartment on April 28. Today marks one month since the killings and still no arrests have been made. Killed were Shalinder Kaur, 39, her parents, Hakiakat Singh Panag, 59, and Parmjit Kaur, 62, and her sister Amarjit Kaur, 58.

It was Shalinder's husband, Gurpreet Singh, who found them all fatally shot while their dinner burned on kitchen stove. During his frantic 911 call, he pleaded for help and often set down the phone to knock on his neighbor's doors for assistance.

Children lived in the Wyndtree Drive home, as well, but were not present at the time of the shooting. They are now with other family members.

West Chester police have said there is no evidence the slayings were a hate crime. A gun was also recovered from a pond near the crime scene. A search warrant was executed on an Autumn Woods Lane residence. Aside from that, information about the investigation has been closely guarded. No suspects have been named by police. No possible motive has been disclosed. On Friday, police spokeswoman Barb Wilson told The Enquirer there were no updates on the case. She said the detectives don't want anything to compromise the integrity of the investigation."
