If I understand correctly, a third public defender, John Cornley, has joined Jake's defense team. He was sitting with them today and introduced by Judge Deering. He is from the "Trial Services Division" where Meyers and Mooney also are from.

How is it that the defendants get more attorneys helping them while the prosecution gets less? Maybe time to replace Yost? JMO. I noticed all of his staff came from the Ohio Auditor's Office, where Yost was last serving. It doesn't look like any of them have much or any experience in criminal trials, in prosecuting murder cases.

ETA: Jake's hearing was earlier this morning. This one is Billy's coming up.

AC has a good resume, though. She spent 21 years prosecuting domestic violence cases. Got her law degree from Ohio State - Moritz College of Law. As someone familiar with domestic violence, she probably understands Jake Wagner and his motivation very well. She's got his number.

Billy's hearing beginning, sound is on. Our favorite courtroom video guy just did a long close up of his scorpion tattoo.

Judge Deering doing intro. Prosecution will be adding a special prosecutor. Junk is explaining the change w/ Yost's office pulling out of the trial, leaving it to Pike County prosecutor. Shouldn't change anything or create a delay. Still have access to special prosecutor and BCI.

AC talks about March meeting, stating they all needed 10 terabyte hard drives. They provided them, she compared to mirrored data from defense attorneys and confirmed it was the same stuff in the master files. 20 folders less on their hard drives, but the data was still there (maybe compressed?). March 13 additional discovery provided. All identical files. She's still going to the shared drive (didn't have access for last 30 days) so she's asking until end of August to complete studying what is in the shared drive.

Defense bond motion for Billy. Scheduled a Bond hearing on Aug 6 at 1:30 pm, referring to as status conference as well. Defense says they may ask for a delay - they're talking about calling witnesses.

Defense still making false claims about delays in discovery. All delays have been on their part.

Bringing in more consultants who can study about "searchable databases" - same BS trying to use technical jargon to confuse potential jurors and continue to delay the trial. JMO. Dude, any computerized evidence databases are searchable in criminal trials, except maybe in Mayberry. Government putting them on notice for 404 B evidence. Sept. 8 for an evidentiary hearing. Prosecution says that language is standard language used on all of these. It's boilerplate language but they're using it for a delay.

Billy is acting like he has a little attitude, JMO. Cuz he's been wronged, I suppose. JMO

Once again, I didn't see Fred Wagner or anyone from the non-imprisoned Wagner family. Did anyone else see them?

ETA: In both hearings today, the defense was being very "defensive" about the fact these trials have been dragging on so long. Of course, we all know the defense teams are dragging it out by making the discovery process difficult. They've tried on numerous occasions to use these pretrial hearings to stage mini-trials with witnesses, etc., much to the judge's consternation. They keep trying to force selective information and arguments into the news media to slant coverage in their favor. They've delayed and messed up the exchange of discovery evidence, delaying getting hard drives to AC then sending the wrong ones sometimes. They've caught media criticism recently for these delays, so now they're trying to accuse the prosecution. I mean who takes the term "searchable database" in relation to computerized evidence files and tries to turn it into something corrupt and controversial. Really?

These guys are the reason lawyers (undeservedly) have a bad name. But I guess if I were the kind of person who went out and murdered 8 innocent people in their sleep, they're the kind of lawyers I would want.

Judge is loud and clear. The rest of them are muffled and lower in volume.

Yeah, they don't have good microphone placement and that courtroom has a lot of echo. If I were the audio engineer, I wouldn't want to be trying to mic any of the presenters, defendants, with COVID 19, etc. I think they just put the mics on the table and the bench and make do with that.

I played the audio today on a bluetooth speaker, makes it easier to hear everyone, but, yeah, the judge ends up being very loud.

You didn't see any of the other Wagners there? Interesting. Could be Fred Wagner doesn't want to attend as she might be in the "high risk" category for COVID 19.

However, Ms Geneva Rhoden was in attendance at both hearings along with her family.

Yes I understand funds are tight.
Oh no. Not another actor.
I guess I should just be Happy Angela Canepa is still on board. Thanks for chatting Betty P.

Don't forget, AG Dave Yost is a former auditor. He likes to brag about cutting costs, cutting budgets, etc. That may have been part of the reason for the AG turning the case over to Junk and Pike County Prosecutor's Office: Yost didn't want it on his budget anymore. He may have been complaining a lot about the cost and, when other problems arose wrt the conference with the "evidence organizer" consultant, they all decided to bail out. Also possible Yost was expecting people to take pay cuts.

DeWine administration announces employee pay cuts to help fill $2.5 billion Ohio budget hole

From O'Brien's statement, there were also some personality clashes, JMO. It would be difficult for someone accustomed to prosecuting cases of financial wrongdoing vs the murder of 8 people. Most of the people in the AG office now come from the state auditor's office and probably aren't suited for managing murder trials.

If anyone knows who does the courtroom audio setup,Tell them there is a mike system out now that will fix the problem. It is a "POLY-COMM Sound Structure" mike system. It uses digital signal processing to null feedback and to a multiple mike mix without interaction.
SoundStructure C Series - Installed Audio Solutions for Large Boardrooms
They will probably provide a free demo in the court room and set it up.
Since this is the biggest trial in Ohio History, I suppose the AG would fund it.

I sure would hope so, and thank you for the helpful information! I did not even get to watch it until a while ago.

Sadly, the new Ohio AG is a notorious penny pincher when it comes to government spending, so there's little chance. He also doesn't have much experience in prosecuting murder cases and probably doesn't realize the importance of this case. MOO . I think that's one of the reasons Angela Canepa left the AG's office and went to Pike County to finish the trials - the AG probably asked her to take a big pay cut as part of the state budget cuts. MOO

Maybe Pike County can buy the system?

Working link, finally, to Billy Wagner's hearing June 22 2020:

Ohio attorney general withdraws from prosecuting Pike County massacre case

Is anyone familiar with Andrew Wilson, the newly appointed Special Prosecutor that sat by Junk today? TIA

He used to work as DeWine's advisor for criminal justice? Maybe still does? IDK?

Who hired big gun to perform opposition research for race involving Alice DeWine in Greene County?

Maybe now he's moving to the special prosecutor's office. Yost has been doing a lot of re-organizing, probably downsizing, too.
