George Wagner IV appears in Pike County court for brief pre-trial hearing | NBC4 WCMH-TV
The main takeaway from Monday’s hearing was an agreement between Wagner’s defense team and the prosecutor to have the state pay for experts to analyze evidence recently turned over to the defense from the prosecutor’s office.
Second motions hearing in George Wagner case canceled due to no court recorder
Video of the hearing is posted with this story. Yes, it sounds like George and his attorneys are going to continue dragging this out.
Apparently, the state isn't concerned about having a defense expert look at the evidence they recently submitted. Who knows, maybe George and his attorneys will go on to trial, where he'll be found guilty and receive a much harder sentence than if he had taken a plea deal.
Some folks just don't have good judgment, especially those who eagerly plot and execute the murders of 8 people sleeping in their beds with infants and small children.
Aren't George's team able to analyse the evidence themselves. They need experts, more $$$$.
Perhaps the defense attorneys see the money tree drying up soon.
Time to repay favors and hand out jobs to their associates.
Because this is only recently turned over evidence, what I think is going on is that the defense needs ballistics experts.
What is the most recent evidence? It is the evidence Jake led them to. What is it? It is the guns they used.
The defense needs to distance George out to Antarctica from these guns if he is to have any chance of saying he didn't go that night or shoot anyone.
So I'm thinking this is all about trying to discredit the evidence found after Jake's confession and more specifically the 3 guns used.
"...to have the state pay for experts to analyze evidence recently turned over to the defense from the prosecutor’s office."
You're right. It'll be the ballistics they need information about. I mean, they know how the law works, that's their business as criminal lawyers. They're not gun or ballistic experts.
Initially I was just throwing sarcasm out there but you've made me stop and think. Again, you're right, thanks CC.

George Wagner IV
September 13, 2021 - 5 minute Hearing
Probably, though it seems like a fools errand to try to discredit the state's ballistics. The state can prove their case one way or another - whether George's gun was or wasn't used in the murders.
If they can't prove GW4 shot Gary Rhoden, they'll do the same thing they did with Angela - offer him a plea deal that is less than LWOP. It seems ridiculous to try to prove George didn't shoot the gun and end up with a guilty verdict on the other charges.
It still seems like a stretch to think George took his gun on the murder mission that night, but his dad took it away from him and used it to shoot Gary Rhoden when his dad already had a gun he had just used to kill Chris Sr.
His attorneys are something else, so is their client.
I tend to think they want experts to analyze the two proffers that were just turned over and not ballistics. Proffers are considered discovery, evidence. Compare them to each other, etc.
I don't think it's the ballistics they are counting on to say he did not shoot the gun, I think it's JW's proffer they are counting on to say that.
This is what I'm thinking too. I'm wondering if Ang and Jake both said George didn't shoot. When George came into the courtroom, and outside when he was leaving, he was smiling. I think Nash will want a trial but his other lawyer does not. Imo.
He might have carried a gun for protection, in case someone in the homes was armed. He just seemed smug today. My opinion.
Edit by me. I was going by CC's photo of George and missed the date on it. Now I don't know if he was smiling when he left the building.
Too bad the rhodens didnt have all those guards. Testifying witness or not seeing her life valued and protected makes me ill.
AW would not be able to say that 100 percent since she was not there but she could say what she had been told about the murders.
If Jake said that, it may help them push for a better plea than LWOP and they may think that jurors would believe JW. They may think if the state accepted and believed JW confessionn that jurors will also. I think if he gets a good plea offer he might need to forget that trial, it may not go so good for him.
Even if he shot no one, wouldn't he still be charged with murder for being there while others did murder?
I'm afraid he'll get a deal like Ang's. Having served on a federal jury I can attest to jurors sometimes being swayed by their own way of thinking. The jury I served with had a man on it who wanted to give the defendant millions, even though she had no case, all because his son got screwed on an insurance claim. son who had nothing to do with the case. I had to hold out and be abused by that man until he finally came around.
He should and in most states would be. Most of the time people are but not sure after that plea deal of AW what may go down. JW could have said G4 did shoot, we really do not know. They were eager to get JW proffer so I am thinking they at least thought it would help them.
I agree with you.
I have some swamp property for sale if anyone thinks George will get out of all the murder charges.
Even if his prints are not on the gun Jake can place him at Chris's and place him as Gary's shooter.
How can that be if Jake was off shooting at Dana's and Frankie's?
Well Jake left behind proof that he was at Chris's with George - his shoe print and George's shoe print.
Now Angela can even testify she bought those shoes, oh, and that Jake and George told her George shot Gary. Canepa said they told Angela about what they did that night when they got back home.
George is going down for at least one murder. If he was smiling it wasn't because he thinks he's home free. Jake smiled all the time, meant zero.
