The two victims of Sunday’s double homicide in Yellow Springs have been identified as William Brown, 44, of Yellow Springs and Sherri Mendenhall, 63, of Yellow Springs, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

Brown is the owner of Legendary Roofing Company in Yellow Springs and the Axel Bahnsen gallery which he ran out of the property. Mendenhall lived in another apartment on the property...

The police do not have a suspect.

William "Skip" Brown and Sherri Mendenhall have been best friends for decades and just became neighbors months ago.

Mendenhall's family was too distraught to talk on camera, but they say she just retired and moved to town.

The two longtime friends shared a passion for art, among other interests. However, why they were targeted remains a mystery.

Les Gilford worked with Brown, he still can't believe what happened.

I realize I am somewhat talking to myself right now on this case but this is what has me following it.
There seems to be a series of shooting related murders taking place in homes in OH where there are no witnesses and the AG's office calls them targeted. It sounds to me with him being found in the home and her in the driveway she may have been trying to escape.

“These were two cold blooded murders and we’re going to do everything in our power to find out who did this,” he described.

Brown served as the project manager at Bahnsen Gallery, a photography exhibit ran out of the duplex that displays works of his great-grandfather, Axel Bahnsen. He was also the chief financial officer at The Legendary Roofing Company, according to a Facebook page. His visitation will take place 4-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20. at Jackson Lytle & Lewis Funeral Home in Yellow Springs.

Mendenhall served as the state and local tax manager at SABIC, studied business administration at Urbana University and graduated from Wayne High School, according to a Facebook page.

According to video "Murders Couldn't have happened at worse time."
Police Chief had resigned in the last 2 weeks after a New Years Eve event and replacement candidates are being reviewed this week. The community has concerns over lack of leadership at this team with the position vacant.

Press conference video in article

Gene Fischer, the Greene County Sheriff, told the media Wednesday that Brown was the intended target. Fischer said the suspect was “angry and targeted” Brown.

He was shot multiple times and Mendenhall, who is not believed to have been a target, was shot once.

Fischer told the media Wednesday that the Bureau of Criminal Investigations was called to assist with the case.

Investigators say that this was an isolated, targeted attack and that the public is not believed to be in danger.

William "Skip" Brown ran an art gallery of sorts from the 4444 Enon Rd. location dedicated to the black & white photography of his grandfather, Alex Bahnsen who at one time was considered one of the best B&W photographers in the world.

Police discovered him inside his home on East Enon Road after first finding his business partner 63-year-old Sherri Mendenhall dead in the driveway. Spencer says he saw Brown as recent as last week.

Jordan: “Did anything seem out of the ordinary?”

Mike: “No, not at all. Just kind of a normal day,” Spencer said. “A normal interaction. He didn’t seem stressed about anything really.”

Friends say Brown had an extensive home security system he installed after some trailers were stolen from his property.

“He had cameras everywhere,” Spencer said. “So there’s not a doubt in my mind that they have something.”

When asked about the cameras, Sheriff Gene Fischer wouldn’t address any questions related to the security systems or the crime scene. Brown’s funeral arrangements are set for Friday in Yellow Springs.

I live very close to YS and am shocked to see this. Stuff like this does not happen there. It is a very laid back hippy town.

Arrested two brothers in neighboring Xenia. They broke in to duplex, murdered the male occupant and when his neighbor came to check on the commotion she was fired at before she barricaded herself in her apartment. They kicked the door in and then shot her and she eventually succumbed to her injuries in the driveway where she was apparently seeking help.

Have they released a motive? It appears based on Green County auditor site the owner of the address where the arrest took place has the same name as his brother. This could just be a common name.

Just to clarify that comment: The victim William Skip Browns brother appears to own the home where the arrests took place last night.

Here it is mentioned in the video that there is a family connection and one of the perps was living in the brothers home. They state they believe they know the motive but are not releasing details around that just yet.

Looking on Facebook it appears that Dave Brown's wife may be the mother of the boys that killed Skip and Mendenhall. I found a pic of her on the page of merricks sister and on Dave browns page.
