WEATHERFORD, Okla. (AP) — Eight inmates being transported by a private prison company escaped in their transport van in western Oklahoma on Tuesday when their guards stopped to take at least one inmate into a hospital and left the keys in the vehicle, police said.

Two prisoners, Lester Burns and Michael Coleman, were at large following the Tuesday afternoon escape at Weatherford. Six were rounded up shortly after police put out a call asking for help. A shotgun aboard the van was also recovered........

Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford was locked down for about two hours while police searched for the two inmates. The school lifted the lock down just before 4 p.m., KOKH television reported.

Lester Burns and Michael Coleman were taken into custody shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday in Weatherford, according to Assistant Police Chief Louis Flowers.

"Somebody called in on them. They saw them in the backyard of a residence," Flowers said.......

Burns and Coleman were found virtually across the street from where they had left the van, Flowers said.......

Oklahoma prisoner dialed 911 to report escape

.....Silverman could have fled with two other inmates who stole the unattended transport van he was riding in, but he dialed 911 and alerted authorities about the escape......

"We're in Oklahoma somewhere. I don't know because we're not on a road and I'm not from here," Silverman told the dispatcher. "I just don't want to get shot by no cops or nothing."
