Residents asked to check property for missing Bend woman

BEND, Ore. - (Update: Possible sighting prompts request of property owners, residents)

The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office turned to the public Wednesday afternoon as they search for a Bend woman missing since Tuesday night. Later in the day, they asked property owners in an area of Tumalo to check their property and outbuildings due to a possible late-night sighting in the area.

Dawn R. Garcia, 49, last was seen around 9 p.m. Tuesday in the 64800 block of Hunnell Road after she left her residence on foot, barefoot and without her cellphone, wallet or glasses, Sgt. William Bailey said.

Garcia is described as a white female, 5-foot-2 and 110 pounds. She last was seen wearing a white tank top, purple tie-dyed shirt and white pants.

Anyone who has seen Garcia since that time or has information as to where she is was urged to call county non-emergency dispatch at 541-693-6911, reference case No. 18-149009.

Bailey later said Garcia may have been seen in the area of Deschutes Junction (Highway 97 at the Tumalo Road overpass north of Bend) about 11:15 p.m.

As a result, the sheriff's office was asking property owners and residents to check their property and outbuildings both north and south of Tumalo Road, between Old Bend-Redmond Highway to the west and Highway 97 to the east.

"Although we cannot confirm the possible sighting was actually Ms. Garcia, we believe the information is worth sharing with the public and ask them to check their properties and outbuildings," Bailey wrote.

I wonder who reported her missing. She left at about 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, on foot and without shoes, cellphone, glasses or wallet. Sounds very unplanned and downright suspicious to me. How badly did she need those glasses? Even if she didn't need them to see with all the time, she certainly needed shoes on her feet if she planned on going very far from her house.
