    Details of Disappearance

Vollendroff and her boyfriend, Eugene Hyatt, were last seen at Boiler Bay State Park in Depoe Bay, Oregon on November 21, 2001. They were staying in an oceanfront condominium with Hyatt's grandparents. At 10:00 a.m. they left the condominium, telling Hyatt's grandparents that they planned to look at the tide pools during the day. Neither Vollendroff nor Hyatt has been heard from again.

Authorities believe that the couple was swept out to sea and drowned; a storm hit the area at around the time they vanished and it is thought that they were dragged into the water by a powerful wave. One of Hyatt's tennis shoes was discovered near Boiler Bay Cove several days after they vanished. The cove is a rocky inlet and is located less than one mile from the couple's last known location inside the park. The couple's bodies were never found, however.

Vollendroff and Hyatt resided in Stayton, Oregon in 2001.

Missing Oregon Girl: Kami Vollendroff, 16, disappeared in November 2001

Kami Vollendroff of Stayton, Oregon, has been missing since Nov. 21, 2001, when she vanished along the Oregon coast at Boiler Bay State Park, near Depoe Bay. Kami was three weeks shy of turning 17 when she disappeared.

    [snip]

Three years later, there was a new development.

A picture surfaced that Peevy thought looked an awful lot like her granddaughter.

    [snip]

Mengell said he sent the picture to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children who looked at it, too, and "they were certain it was her (Kami) as well."

"They computerized the pictures and it had come out 99.9% that they were the same person," said Kami's grandmother.

Thanks so much for posting this, SWSNBN! I was trying to get around to it after seeing an entry on Meaghan's Charley blog earlier, but you beat me to it. If it is Kami, it is terrifying. And what happened to Eugene if she was trafficked? When did grandma see the picture - 2004? And we're just now hearing about it? I wonder where she saw the photo - I must have missed that if it was mentioned.

Yeah, 2004... It does make me wonder why, if NCMEC felt it was 99% certain that it was Kami in the photo, there was never anything about it until now. Certainly there should have been something in the media. Something urging someone to come forward. SOMETHING.

As for where the photo was, it looks like it was maybe in the personals section of a newspaper? That's kind of what it looked like when the video zoomed in on it.

I would really like to know if LE called the number..and if they got an answer and well, what happened? Its frustrating not to know what came of this. Especially since there is still a missing boy involved.

The odd thing is the the 503 area code is from OR. the same state she disappeared from. So why haven't the police followed up on you owned the phone number?
