Search Continues For Missing Oregon Mother, Four Months After Her 'Incredibly Suspicious' Disappearance
[...]

Hermiston Police Chief Jason Edmiston told Oxygen.com that Graciela was last seen on Nov. 8 and was reported missing by one of her daughters just a few days later on Nov. 11.

“Her husband told the family and investigators that she just left town, leaving behind her vehicle and all of her possessions,” Edmiston said.

Investigators discovered no signs of distress at her home.

Edmiston said investigators believe that foul play “is certainly one possibility” in the case.

[...]

... and declined to provide specifics about whether or not there had been any activity on any of her financial accounts in the months since the mother of four vanished.

... “We have accessed all the information and data that we can legally access, and we’ve sought assistance from outside agencies, including the Oregon State Police and the FBI. ...

Her daughter GG told Dateline that the night she disappeared she had been planning to take her son food at his father’s house, where he was staying, but that she never arrived.

The son noticed he had two missed calls from his mother and a text around 7 p.m. but when he tried to return the call his mother never answered and her phone went straight to voicemail.

Graciela Garcia is a beloved hair stylist and salon owner in Hermiston, Oregon. On November 8, 2019, she vanished and hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

Daughter has hope missing mother Graciela Garcia who vanished from Oregon home in November 2019 will be found safe
[...]

Graciela’s phone remained off and her social media went quiet. When Gabby and her siblings searched their mother’s home on Hurlburt Avenue, her car was still there and everything inside seemed to be in place.

“That was odd, too,” Gabby told Dateline. “All her jewelry was there. In one place. Whenever she would go out, she would put on her rings. Things would be scattered, like her clothes, but it was all in place. And nothing was missing.”

Graciela was a young child when she immigrated to the United States from Mexico, and has been living in Oregon since her family settled there. That’s where she met her husband, who is also originally from Mexico. They raised two daughters and two sons before divorcing after 17 years of marriage.

Missing Hermiston woman's family still hoping for information
[...]

“Her family is devastated through all of this,” she [her daughter] said. “Her grandkids cry for her.”

[...]

“We didn’t see her that night,” she said. “We don’t know what she was wearing.”

[...]

Police continue to investigate the case. Hermiston Police Chief Jason Edmiston told reporters that Garcia’s husband reported she had been seen at home on Nov. 8, and another person also corroborated that she was in Hermiston that day. Since then, no one has reported hearing from her, and her vehicle and possessions were left behind.

It feels bad.... It seems *almost* every time the husband or ex-husband is the last to see... things did not end well. Would love to be wrong, but this seems like the husband should be scrutinized. What reason would this woman have to run away? Why was nothing of hers missing? IMO because the husband killed her.

Vanished: Family searches for grandmother missing since November
RSBM
Lt. Randy Studebaker with Hermiston police says Garcia's disappearance is 'incredibly suspicious'.

He says Hermiston police want to find her, too.

"A lot of rumors going around," he says. "A lot of theories and at this point we're happy to hear them all and look into them."

Because at the end of the day he says police only have theories.

"We don't know what happened to her," Studebaker says. "And we can't prove or disprove anybody has committed a crime."

Interesting comments

There has been lot of public attention on our investigation into the disappearance of Graciela Garcia. We believe in transparency and welcome public inquiry, but there are certain things we cannot disclose about open investigations. We withhold this information to prevent the loss or destruction of evidence, protect investigative techniques to ensure their effectiveness, and to prevent suspects from fleeing our jurisdiction.
There has also been a lot of misinformation circulating about this case. We have not addressed this, until now, because it is mostly speculation and rumor. Below are the facts about this case that we can make public without compromising the investigation. No additional information can be released for the reasons listed above.
• Graciela was reported missing on November 11, 2019, three days after she was last seen in Hermiston. We considered her disappearance suspicious from the time of the initial report, and immediately opened an investigation.

• We asked for, and received, a significant number of additional resources from the Oregon State Police. Their assistance was primarily additional detectives. We also consulted with the FBI regarding technical assistance with certain evidence. Those resources are still available to us and are being used as needed.
• Police officers searched locations Graciela was known to frequent as well as other places that were discovered during the course of this investigation. Among these locations were the house where she lived with her husband and other properties in Umatilla County.
• Graciela’s husband has been cooperative throughout this investigation. He has consented to a search of his home and other property under his control, been interviewed on more than one occasion, provided DNA samples, etc. He was under no legal obligation to do any of those things, and his cooperation was not compelled in any manner.
• None of the detectives assigned to the investigation, and to my knowledge no members of this department, have any personal connection or social acquaintance with anybody connected to the case. This includes Graciela, her family, and her husband.
In order to make an arrest and hold somebody in jail, we need to establish probable cause. Legally, probable cause is defined as a substantial, objective basis to believe that, more likely than not, a crime has been committed and the person to be arrested has committed that crime. We have not been able to establish this as yet. The standard for conviction in a criminal case is even higher.
There is currently a fundraiser circulating on social media to hire private investigators to work on this case. We have no opinion on that, or whether or not members of the community should donate. Members of the public wishing to donate should know that the money will, in no way, benefit the Hermiston Police Department or the partner agencies assisting us. We have sufficient resources available to manage the investigation at this time.
Like the whole community, but particularly Graciela’s family, we want answers. The case will remain open until we get those answers. While the unanswered questions are frustrating to every member of this community, real-life cases aren’t solved in a single episode, and the investigations must be conducted in compliance with the law and the constitution.

If you have any information that can assist with the investigation, please call us at 541-567-5519.

Ten months after mother disappears, Hermiston family searches for answers - YakTriNews.com
[...]

Bautista (Graciela's daughter) explained the story of what happened the night of November 8th, 2019.

She said Graciela was supposed to bring her son food but instead her husband, Bautista’s stepfather, brought it. He supposedly told his stepson that Graciela went to bed. The next day, Graciela’s husband told Bautista’s sister, he didn’t know where Graciela went and she wasn’t home. When the news reached Gabriela, who lives in Boardman, panic ensued.

[...]

... Gabriela said all that her mother took was her ID, passport and phone, which was turned off.

“It was pinged right when you cross Washington Bridge and then it cut off after that, her ID’s and her passport, all of that is missing so it’s just herself that vanished and we don’t understand how that happened,” Gabriela said.

[...]

Recently, Gabriela has started an Etsy shop to sell t-shirts, stickers and bracelets. She said the funds will be used for hiring a private investigator and any legal fees the family may encounter. The daughter also hopes this will spread awareness on their mother’s case.

[...]

KAPP KVEW News did reach out to Chief Edmiston and Graciela’s husband, but neither of them have given a reply.

I don't believe for a moment that this clearly devoted mother just voluntarily took off. Without packing a bag? Even if you could imagine a scenario where she'd leave in a panicked hurry, her husband would have a lot more to say to her family about it immediately. And she would have taken more items, because you're not going to take your passport but no clothing, personal items, etc. And turn your phone off? It all adds up to a big nope, because that's not how it happened. All just my opinions.

My sister run away twice, without any clothing (just what she was wearing at the moment), personal effects, etc. My sis though is a junkie and was running away from the responsibility for what she did (stealing a boatload of money from the company we run together with other folks being one of the things she did) so the situation might be different than that with Graciela.

I am feeling this too, why did her daughter report missing a few days later when it should have been the husband the very next day. How does someone take off like that without their car, she would have been seen at a bus station or at an airport etc. or there would be some evidence on her phone (Uber, friend, secret relationship) or at least activity on any financial accounts. This one reeks imo.

Quote RSBM.

Oh no, I'm sorry that happened in your family, sorry you went through that.
People do take off without much planning but... It would actually be good here because it would hopefully mean she's out there safe...

It would, yes. Graciela seems to be though a stable person with a good life, so I don't think she took off just like that.
