Found Deceased OR - Joshua McCoy, 5, Autism, goes by "Josh" or "Joshie", may not respond, missing when mom woke up frm nap at 5:30pm, Stage Rd, Hauser, 10 Nov 2024

It bothers me that there hasn't been anybody in Josh's community speak about him that knew him. Not Mom or whoever must have been caring for him while Mom worked whatever shifts she may have worked as a nurse. Not Mom's coworkers or acquaintances. It's like Josh and Mom lived in a world all their own. Did they have any support? Did they interact with anyone at all? I'm not sure I've seen this level of silence ever in a case like this.

I know- no one from a daycare or babysitter or playgroup or anything- that just seems odd especially with a nurse mom- someone had to be interacting with him… moo

do we know last know sightings besides mom?

Haven't seen anything about a last known sighting.
There are very few pictures of him, too.
Poor kidlet.
IMO.

A short video of Joshie's vigil. The rain was really coming down which might have kept some away. They also said that some of his family flew out for it, which I had posted above that they weren't going to according to the Uncle.

Looks like the family had planned on traveling to North Bend to attend the vigil tonight, but father and grandmother didn't feel well enough to travel. :(

So I'm wondering if they did, or didn't travel to OR for the vigil. The MSM in the link above says they didn't feel well enough to travel, yet other MSM today said they flew in for the vigil.

If they did fly in it makes me wonder if (1) Joshie's mom was also in attendance and they ran across each other, and (2) did family drive a few miles north to attempt to contact the mother face-to-face at her house, asking for answers to their questions? We've read where she wasn't giving them any info after he went missing and before he was found. The bunch of them face-to-face knocking on her door would have been intimidating to say the least. I'd think it would be hard to come so far, and be so close, to not reach out to have a face-to-face conversation. They want answers.

The anticipated search area strikes me as having been vastly inadequate. A fifth of a mile from the home? How many cases have we seen on here where even younger children have been found, alive or deceased, a mile, two, two and a half from their starting point?

Why were they looking so close to the home when Joshie didn't have a physical limitation that would have prevented him from doing what eloping toddlers and autistic kiddos do - walking until they reach their physical limits, meet an accidental end, or are found alive?

MOO
100% agree

Did they say which family was at the vigil? Maybe an aunt or cousin or older 1/2 sibling(s) to represent the family? (On my phone with sketchy signal, article didn’t open…)

Does OR have preK-4 in their public schools? Or early intervention children’s programs? On the east coast it’s typical for many special needs children to begin pre-school at 3 to get services and voluntarily pre-kindergarten at 4 is available to everyone in many states (I don’t know if it’s available everywhere)

This raises questions about the father and mother if grandmother wanted to adopt J. Why would you adopt if either parent were reliable? Strange
IMO
quite frankly, I think Josh needs to stop talking to press and mind his own. Just MOO he is not giving anything of substance to this situation and seems to enjoy this attention. I take this information with a very large grain of salt.

If a child qualifies, it is federal law that they can receive services starting at birth and school programs starting at age 3. Each program is funded at the state level, but mandated by federal law. So, yes, if he qualified with a spectrum diagnosis, he could have started school on his 3rd birthday.

Just as a side note to anyone reading in the US. If you know a child age 0-5 with developmental delays not yet attending school, call your state’s Part C office and have them evaluated for free help and therapies.

Thank you, that’s how it is around where I currently live, but I didn’t know if it was national or not.

I feel like JJ should have been in school of some sort and most certainly should have had an IEP if his autism was a factor that affected his learning. I am stuck wondering was JJ involved at all with school or the community? Who normally saw JJ during a typical day aside from his mother?

I don't like this quiet. If this sweet boy died a natural death I feel like that should have been easy enough to determine. The longer this silence continues the worst I feel about this case. JMO

He would have been 6 Saturday and that means that he should have been in kindergarten this year and possibly a Pre-K 4 program last year, but he is definitely “school aged” -

do we know when mom and dad broke up?

All we've heard is about a year. That comes from dad, Amos McCoy, statements to press about JJ's death.
