been afk and still catching up with new updates. I am assuming Josh's mother is the source of the non factual allegation that an unnamed family member picked the child up? Reminds me of Leilani Simon insisting to LE that Quinton's father "must" have come and taken him in the night. From the media release ^
discovered the child had a cellphone, and a phone-ping of that phone was conducted. The information related to the phone-ping did not provide any fruitful information.
Several Deputies began a search of the property, while investigating the allegations of Joshua being picked up by a known family member which was later found not be factual.

I hadn’t heard that the boy had a cellphone. Was it his?? His mother’s? I find it unusual that a 5 y.o. would have a phone of his own, but you never know.
Also hadn’t heard the allegation the boy was picked up by a family member.
“Today, around 12:30 p.m., Joshua was discovered deceased and found approximately 1.6 miles straight line distance North-West from the child’s residence, and almost 2 miles by road,” the release added.

Perhaps LE's hinky meter went off after talking to the mother and perhaps it would likely be a criminal investigation in their minds. Sure, they just wanted to find Joshie, but maybe they also wanted to retain any evidence and left scenes pure without a bunch of people tromping through.THIS. This was really bothering me before he was found. I completely understand in a criminal investigative sense why they would only want trained searchers out there to preserve evidence and proof of life passing through etc. But in this case, I do NOT agree with the call. It should have been anyone and everyone, and search every property and possible hiding space or place for shelter that a small child might crawl into. In this case the call should have been preserve life and find this child before he succumbs, rather than preserve possible evidence. It could have made the difference for Josh. Just my opinion.
Similar thoughts- it’s possible that LE learned information early on that directed how and where they searched- and they wanted to preserve evidence- just my thoughtsPerhaps LE's hinky meter went off after talking to the mother and perhaps it would likely be a criminal investigation in their mind. Maybe things mom said weren't adding up, or her story kept changing, making their hinky meter rise with each headscratcher and/or change. I think that's entirely possible.
As always... JMO.
I was only trying to speculate why there was no clothing description for Joshua.I have to disagree with this completely. IMO, knowing what a person was last seen wearing when they go missing is often extremely important for many reasons. ESPECIALLY so in a case like Josh's. SAR should definitely know to be looking for specific clothing, with or without a person attached. Colors of clothing can also help with SAR, particularly if the person was wearing colors that would not blend in with the environment being searched. It can help determine in criminal cases that a victim likely died in the day they went missing or were otherwise incapable of changing clothing between going missing and being found, etc. There are also Unidentified Remains which are later found and clothing found on or nearby the remains could help identify them. I am not trained SAR or LE, but I've been reading at WS for over 20 years and I find "last seen wearing" data to be extremely important in missing cases, which is why it's the standard usually for any missing persons report. I lived in that area for many years. Yes, our address was North Bend. It’s rural, deeply forested, sparsely populated. What I've come to learn is that Hauser is an unincorporated area, which made me wonder what city name they use for legal stuff. So I searched Zillow for Hauser properties and found that Zillow considers them North Bend. Hauser is north of North Bend by 6.3 miles.

I know you were. I wasn't attempting to argue with you, and apologize if it seemed so. I agree with you that it's usually important and should have been here. That doesn't sit right with me about this case. I'm so glad Josh was found and I really hope this was all just an accident that took his life.I was only trying to speculate why there was no clothing description for Joshua.

No worries.
I would be interested in knowing if he was found clothed, shoes or socks. Must have been difficult to get to that location through thick woods.
True! I would be so stressed out I would not know my own name. I can not imagine how panicked you would be to have your child missing. I watch all the missing shows and news and can not fathom how you would survive such a thing.Regarding the clothing: a child that old could easily have changed clothes. Say the clothes he'd had on were left on the floor in the house? Mom might reasonably have not known what clothes he'd changed to... especially when dealing with the panic of him being missing.
(Reasoning: I can't be the only one with kids/grandkids who start out playing in their room, and come out dressed in something completely different... and then when I check their room, my neat organization is destroyed because they've been through half a dozen outfit changes...)
Turns out you were right and he was "really far out there" according to the Sheriff. Whether he got there himself, or was placed there, we don't know at this point.According to the article, the search effort is being conducted about 3 and a quarter football fields in length in every direction. So, about 1/5 of a mile in every direction.
IMHO, that's nowhere near enough for an autistic child. He could have been that far away, IMHO, by the time she woke up and realized he's missing.

The area where the boy's body was found was outside the typical search area. "That distance was really far outside of the expected search parameter, and we expanded outwards and had some help, but he was found really far out there.”
