COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. -- an 88-year-old woman is missing after leaving her home for an unknown destination, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office said.

The LCSO says Nancy Peschel, 88, left her home in the Cottage Grove area at about 10 a.m. on September 1 and has yet to return. Officials say her direction of travel is unknown, but that Peschel may have been heading towards Myrtle Point. Deputies say Peschel was last seen driving a tan or silver 2010 Chevrolet Impala with Oregon license plate 421HES.

Peschel is described as an adult white female with white hair and brown eyes. Officials say she is quite frail, standing about 5 feet tall and weighing just 75 pounds. Peschel is known to have several medical conditions, including dementia. She was last seen wearing glasses and a blue dress.

Anyone with information regarding Nancy Peschel’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Lane County Sheriff’s Office at 541-682-4150 option 1.

This is a long shot. But I wonder if maybe she was going to a funeral? Last month, my 88 year old uncle drove 6 hours to his sister-in-law’s funeral. He left at 6am, and none of us were expecting him. He said he’d known her since he was six years old and just had to be there. He doesn’t have dementia, though. It’s often forgotten that the elderly are still people, you know? They can be heartbroken and can feel strongly and be compelled to act - and be hard-headed and determined - just like the rest of us… A beloved cousin or a friend passing (or in their final days), may have been a trigger for her. Just a thought.
