“JCSO detectives and Search & Rescue (SAR) personnel are conducting an evidence search in the area of China Gulch Road, near where Stephanie lived. The hair was initially found by a mushroom hunter who called in the suspicious remains.”

Just a little interesting trivia about China Gulch Road:

Looking at a satellite view of Stephanie’s property (red marker), the name “China Gulch” appears practically next door. You can see a bit of China Gulch Road in the upper right corner of the map.

According to this link, there are numerous places called “China Gulch” in the county, but the nearby China Gulch Road is named after the China Gulch next to Stephanie’s.

China Gulch3. Jackson County.
China Gulch has a north-south orientation with its mouth facing the Applegate River about 1 ½ miles west of the community of Ruch. Reference: U.S.G.S. Quadrangle 7.5’ series, Ruch, Oregon, 1996.

China Gulch Road. Jackson County.
China Gulch Road is parallels China Gulch3 west of the community of Ruch. Its name is derived from the nearby gulch. Reference: “China Gulch Road.”; U.S.G.S. Quadrangle 7.5’ series, Ruch, Oregon, 1996.

You can see from this satellite view of China Gulch Rd just how far it goes into the mountains, with offshoots that would make it quite easy to hide Stephanie without traveling far.

I wonder how LE goes about finding Lennie Laverne Ames, last known to be in TX.

Arrested for a false ID.

His son Jared Fournier is a fugitive, last known to be in Houston TX. Scroll through mugshots to #5.

I did a people search for both of them on three different websites and they show Ames at an address in Ashland OR, which I seriously doubt is accurate. Jared still shows up at a Houston address. These people search websites are notoriously inaccurate. They have my husband living in a town five miles away where we lived 10 years ago. I live at our current address with an 89 year old friend whose bills come to me to pay because he has dementia and is in assisted living. It looks pretty scandalous! :D

It wouldn’t surprise me if they are in Mexico by now.

Texas? I thought LA was in Florida or was at one time. If they are in Mexico, I wouldn't be shocked to find out that LE has been tracking them.

LA gets around! He did go to GA and FL after he and his son JF left Oregon. I’ve been tracking sonny-boy on FB all these years. And the recent mugshots I posted are from the Houston area, where they’ve been for several years, which I emailed the detective when I saw they were there. I’ve always figured you can’t assume LE has info. LA has no SM and JF hasn’t posted on FB (that I can find) since March of 2022, which is when I suspect he went on the lam. Prior to that he was prolific. I certainly hope LE has been able to track them. They think they’re smarter than they are, so it shouldn’t be too hard.

This is an old series of posts from a previous thread that contained info to help us focus and get caught up to speed:

I'm posting a few links in line with Neptune's excellent suggestion to stay focused on who, what, where, when, how. This will help any who are just joining us to get up to speed, and it will refresh our memories too.

I've pulled this info about Stephanie from a list we put together on 9/2/13 on the previous thread, post #474. There may be additions we can add. Feel free.

Lost weight (not sure how, why or when).
Probably not depressed (volunteered regularly, was in the parade).
Says she got married (probably not legally, probably to POI who referred to himself as her bf and fiancé).
Promoted POI's videos on FB as recently as June 20.
Played online Poker. Last game apparently July 4 at 6:08 p.m.?
Bible verses posted until June 7.
FB friend with son of POI but not dil.
Had elaborate tats.
Wore a cross necklace made of nails.
Maybe camera shy in parade video?
Had fight with bf in Ashland July 4 witnessed by others.
Alcohol device in car.
Car driven late p.m. July 4--early a.m. July 5.
Car/SUV is an off-road vehicle.

Here is another list we put together 9/2/13 (post #439 previous thread) with what we knew about Stephanie's boyfriend and person of interest, Lennie/Lonnie Ames. Additions and corrections welcome.

Last to see her.
Didn't report her missing.
Arguing before she went missing.
No source of income. *Actually YouTube is a source of income. And possibly the POI administers several channels using different handles.
Is he her BF or her husband.
Cult-like background that promotes anti-government activity on Helias314 YouTube channel.
Stopped doing social media right after she went missing. *His history of video uploads has breaks of 3-7 days between uploads.
Has access to her vehicle.... that is designed to go off-road.
The two main routes from Ashland to Ruch have many opportunities to go off-road into the mountains.
Extensive knowledge of the woods because of his mining activity.
Accused her former bf in a TV interview.
Hasn't explained details like why they parted at the store, where he lives, etc.
Photos of him at parade show him wearing some kind of apparatus under his shirt and pants. (Gun?)

The following is a post by Neptune from 9/2/13 on the previous thread (post #441). It explains very clearly why we have focused on Lennie Ames in our research even before he was named a POI and we could discuss it on WS.

The unusual activities that the POI is involved in are very serious. How does this connect to Stephanie? It gives an idea of her boyfriend's mindset. He is someone who openly promotes militia-like resistance against authority -- the U.S. government no less -- and has reached more than 4 million people in his effort (YT video views 4,635,522 total). So, a popular guy with devoted followers. A defiant guy with a huge ego.

He openly defied the US Forest Service and camped on BLM land resulting in a lengthy court process. So, he didn't just move, as most people would -- he dug his heels in defiantly and for years.

On July 4, Stephanie and Lonnie argued openly at the parade. Then Stephanie got in a vehicle with him -- a man whose ego is supported by thousands of people who think he's right because he's defiant. Who admire his combative stance. She got into a vehicle with a man who supports armed resistance and who, from what I could tell in photos of him, was most likely armed that day.

They had an hour's drive ahead of them.

What happened in that vehicle -- an hour of silence? An hour of exchanging pleasantries? Doubtful. At some point on the way home while the argument continued, did Stephanie say something that challenged his authority, his ego? She knew about his activities, did she threaten to expose him? Or, was it something simpler... She said things that made him feel small, vulnerable, incapable? In arguing with him, she was defying him -- so how does he handle that?

In my opinion, he viewed Stephanie the same way he views the US government.

The sheriff’s office said human hair and tissue were found on Monday afternoon by a mushroom hunter in the 9000 block of Highway 238, near where Stephanie Anne Warner lived.

Warner, 43, was last seen on July 4, 2013, leaving a Fourth of July parade in Ashland with her boyfriend, Lennie Ames, according to the sheriff’s office. The two left together in her green 2003 Nissan Xterra and were believed to be heading back to her house in Ruch.

Ames and his son, Jared Fournier, are believed to know something about Warner’s disappearance but have been “uncooperative” with the investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators believe Warner was the victim of homicide and her body was left in the Applegate area.

Detectives have sent the tissue to the Oregon State Police Forensics Laboratory to get a positive identification. Detectives will also be conducting an evidence search in the area of China Gulch Road.

“As we approach 10 years since she went missing, please help us get justice and bring Stephanie home to her family,” the sheriff’s office said in a release.

“We’re getting really close. We’ve been digging through everything, all the casebooks, all the evidence, re-interviewing everybody,” Ainsworth said. “And we’re close, and I know we’re gonna find her.”

''Ainsworth said that over the past three years he has been watching old interviews and reviewing other evidence from a decade ago, contacting people and conducting new interviews and using new forensic technology as it becomes available. He was particularly optimistic about geofencing warrants, information obtained from cellphone towers.

"It's like historical cellphone data. Oftentimes as you're traveling, Google pays attention, and some of the information is recoverable," he said.
He has been working recently to put together the information necessary to obtain a geofencing warrant. Laptops and phones related to the case were also recently transferred to the Southern Oregon High-Tech Crimes Task Force, he said.

The hair and tissue found this week is considered presumptive until the Oregon State Police Forensics Laboratory is finished analyzing the new evidence, Ainsworth said, but the remains were found near Warner's residence in the 9000 block of Highway 238''

I read that a mushroom hunter recently found hair and tissue near Stephanie's home. Could human tissue still be found ten years after a person died?

Even if it's not related to her disappearance at least it's brought new attention to her case. JMO.

I wondered about tissue after all these years too. I suppose hair roots might qualify as “tissue,” although it could be something that has dried out, but is still identifiable as tissue.

From what Detective Ainsworth said, it sounds like he’s spent the last three years digging into this case, for which I’m very grateful. Now that there is a spotlight on Stephanie’s case, I hope there can be arrests soon, no matter who the remains belong to.

Stephanie Anne Warner vanished after she left a Fourth of July parade in Ashland with her then boyfriend, Lennie Ames, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office said. They were supposed to be going to Warner's house in Ruch, located in southern Oregon near the border with California, but Warner was never seen again.

"Lennie and his son Jared Fournier are believed to know something about Stephanie's disappearance but have been uncooperative with the investigation," authorities wrote on Facebook.

Officials believe Warner, then 43, was a victim of homicide, but they've never been able to find her to confirm it, Jackson County Sheriff's Sgt. Jesse Ainsworth said.

Investigators reopened the cold case after a mushroom hunter found human hair and apparently tissue about 2.5 miles from where Warner lived, officials said. After the mushroom hunter reported the suspicious remains, officers went to the scene.

"We went out there and seized some of the hair and we have since confirmed it's human," Ainsworth said. The hair is being sent to the Oregon State Police Forensics Laboratory for further testing.

Why Salem Oregon?

LA has lived in the Salem/Silverton area in the past and fathered children there. He went there briefly after he and son, DIL and DIL’s mother moved out of Stephanie’s house on Sept 2013. IIRC his son JF was arrested and jailed on a drug charge while they were still in Oregon (he may have been arrested up north and brought back to Medford, but my memory is hazy). I kind of doubt they’d come back to Oregon, since there are long-standing unrelated warrants that are on file in Oregon for both of them.

From online searching for LA. Apparently at one time (around 2015) he had lived in Moultrie, GA.

I still can't believe the gall of LA, JF, DIL and DIL'S mother to have stayed IN STEPHANIE'S HOUSE for two months, 8 weeks or more. Ugh. Is anyone aware of police reports reports of assault or domestic violence involving the mothers of any of his children or ex partners?

From the article below, the police have had physical evidence that shows she was murdered. Hopefully, they found her remains and will be able to identify her and figure out what happened.

My hope is LA and JF are currently in custody somewhere and they can be extradited back to Oregon in a timely manner as soon as the DNA comes back.

Police said that their investigation has turned up physical evidence indicating that Warner is dead, and that they believe Ames knows the location of her remains. He has not disclosed the location of Warner’s remains and is not cooperating with law enforcement at this time.

A mushroom hunter found what appeared to be human hair and tissue in the Jackson County woods of Oregon on Monday, May 1.

The sheriff’s office responded to the scene and sent the hair and tissue to the Oregon State Police Forensics Laboratory in hopes of confirming a positive identification.

The hair and tissue were found about two miles away from Stephanie Anne Warner’s home. The 43-year-old vanished after leaving a Fourth of July parade in 2013.
