If it is her, she was in a home?garage? that wasn't being used. In a residential area.
If this is foul play, why why why would someone leave her where she would sure to be found?
Did she meet someone there that harmed her there? Did she go voluntarily there and harm herself?
So many questions.

The article points out that Catherine and her husband Michael inquired into buying the home.
Eek.
Why would she be in there? Brought there and left? On her own accord? Or on her own accord and met with foul play?
So very sad.

As a resident I'm so irritated that all the abandoned homes in our community weren't searched. Especially one so close to where she went missing. People are singing APD praises but perhaps if they did a thorough search she could have returned home in a better condition. I feel so sorry for the family, I hope they don't screw up the murder investigation so terribly.

It's been reported that the area is in fact a crime scene. What could be there after all these months that could almost immediately deem it a crime scene?

Most likely obvious damage to the remains (broken bones, for example). Could also be something like rope indicating she was tied up. Or a weapon that was out of her reach.

Our local paper, news stations and police departments use the term "crime scene" very loosely. I feel with the simple facts that a body was found in a vacant garage warrants the use of the term. Most people who have their own home or apartment don't wonder into a vacant property to die, even if it's found to be a suicide and she planned it, from my experience the deed is done some place that they know they will be found.

I have heard that her body was found laying partially on a blue tarp but I haven't heard if there were any other indications that a crime was committed, ie: bound by tape or rope, obvious signs of trauma, etc. Her preliminary autopsy was completed, which gave a positive identification (although it is rumored that her family was called to the scene to ID the body) and there's additional forensic testing waiting to be completed.

I don't believe for one minute that her body has been in the garage for the full 6 months. We had exceptionally hot days in December, right after she went missing - Altoona hit the 70s. We didn't have a terribly awful winter, some snow here and there... but I don't believe that almost 6 months to the day, the neighbors suddenly smell death lurking around. I truly believe that something happened the night of December 9th and she was killed that night into Thursday the 10th. I feel someone put the pressure on whoever killed her, they got nervous and moved her to that garage - which is why the smell was not noticed before.

As for some things mentioned -- there is no proof that Mike or Cathy looked into purchasing the home. If it was going to go up for a tax sale, the courthouse would have been contacted for information regarding the home and the cost. There are no screen shots of messages, texts or facebook posts about looking into buying any home. I'm not sticking up for anyone in particular but I feel like people shouldn't repeat rumors that carry so much weight with no proof.

I think the roommates need to be interrogated and the house needs to be thoroughly investigated, any vehicle that was available for use should be examined.

All of that aside, I'm glad she's been found although the outcome is very grim. Her family and friends can breathe and no longer worry about where she's at, if she's safe, where she's laying her head... but this brings on so many new questions. I hope the family finds peace and can finally put her to rest the proper way. I hope that this part of the investigation is handled better than the original disappearance.

I just can't imagine moving a dead body even after 2 months! 6 months later? Oh dear no.
How far would the smell travel if she has been there the whole time? The alley doesn't seem to get much travel. People are just starting to head out and do yard work, take walks, etc.. I think it's very possible that's where she's been.

LClapper we are probably related ;). Nevertheless, APD effed this investigation from the get. There weren't any calls for search parties other than from the family. IF she did sit there, that home was in fact not searched, and we know from living here there are several condemded homes in our area that are abandoned. Also not to be too morbid we also had days that were very frigid, she could have thawed, refroze, thawed refroze. Also, May and March were still unseasonably cold, our warmest days were recent, days where it remained warm. As a morning jogger it was easily in the 30's for the most of recent months. Only in the last weeks have I been able to wear less clothing to run in the early morning.
When discussing this case with my family, my sister remembers a murder investigation in the early 2000's where the feds were called in to investigate because APD was deemed inept.
I feel that apd weren't concerned. I went to school with the Boob family and they were very poor (not that I judge them for that, as was I). She didn't have custody of her children, which could be for any reason-that I also don't judge her for, perhaps she didn't have the financial means or was in a relationship that her partner was abusive who knows. To that point Altoona residents and the APD are very judgemental of people in our area who are less fortunate, and even from the Bellwood Valedictorian speech news, bullying is a huge part of our community.
APD is too worried about their dimebag dealers and low level pushers, drug busts that give them good PR then to develop a search plan for Cathy.

In my opinion, she died the night of the party. The text message was a shotty coverup attempt. This may be anecdotal but I have never requested my husband to let my Mom know I was ill. I would pick up the phone when she called and tell her myself. Also of she got in the car after getting weed why wouldn't she have her phone with her? Why would she leave her home without her personal items to go to her dealers home? Either it's an OD that the roommates were too afraid to report, which is a stretch-casual Marijuana users to hard drug leap seems to be farfetched. Or, something more sinister occured. A jealous husband over an interaction at the party. The roommates know more that the public isn't privy to.

For Copley's family, there has been little peace since their daughter, sister and mother disappeared in early December. Now, their focus has shifted from finding Copley to staying strong in the hopes that Altoona police will catch her killer...

Copley's family said they're prepared to wait and they believe that they will get justice for Cathy...

The family said they are not being told much by police, who said last week the case is actively under investigation. The *advertiser censored* said they know police are still waiting for the test results of evidence collected at the time Copley's body was found.

Investigators have remained tight-lipped about the investigation. They have confirmed the autopsy is complete, but additional forensic testing is needed to determine the cause and manner of death. They are calling this a crime.

Michael Copley was arrested at Central Court Tuesday for a cost and fine warrant, but he was there to face criminal mischief charges for tearing down signs of his missing wife...

"I know eventually it will be an arrest of murdering my sister and seeing him just being in handcuffs is the most amazing feeling," said Amy Boob, Catherine's sister.

Michael Copley has not been named as a suspect in Catherine's murder.

Unfortunately, I have no faith in the APD. They dropped the ball on my sister's (Sherry Leighty) disappearance/murder. I wrote a book about my struggles to find Sherry. I feel such heartache for Catherine's family because I know exactly what they are going through and having to deal with this police dept. I will continue to support them and pray for an arrest & conviction for Cathy's murder.
