FRAZER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Allegheny County police are looking for a missing woman out of Frazer Township after her boyfriend, who officials believe is responsible for her disappearance, was found dead from an apparent suicide.

According to police, 59-year-old Darlene Harbison was last seen on Sept. 11.

Harbison’s daughter has made multiple attempts to contact her before requesting a welfare check, officials said.

Police said Harbison was in a volatile relationship with 57-year-old Eric Gibbs, whom officials believe is responsible for her disappearance. Gibbs was found dead from an apparent suicide on Sept. 17 in West Deer Township.

Channel 11 got hold of a copy of the PFA, protection from abuse order, Harbison got against Gibbs less than five months before she mysteriously disappeared. He violated the PFA in June.

A search party is being held on Crawford Run Road in Cheswick. People at the search told Channel 11 that they’re asking anyone with ATVs or horses to help in their efforts.

Video and article at the link are horrifying.

From the article:

[...]

In those documents, Harbison wrote:

“He has picked me up and held me down in the hot tub.”

He was “in the bedroom with a half-gallon of vodka and a firearm to his chin.”

“He pulled my driver’s side window out until it broke.”

Gibbs violated that PFA in June. He pleaded guilty in court a day after Harbison disappeared. Harbison’s brother says matters escalated with the PFA. Harbison decided not to prosecute, and Gibbs was in the process of being kicked out of the home.

Two days before Harbison was last seen, Gibbs was arrested for trespassing on her property. Police were called. They said when they got there, Gibbs was hiding behind a car. He was extremely intoxicated, according to court documents, and told police he would show them he didn’t have any weapons. Police say he pulled down his pants and exposed himself.

Darlene Harbison of Frazer Township was last seen on September 11 and police believe they know who is responsible for her disappearance but they cannot question him.

That person is Eric Gibbs but he was found dead of an apparent suicide in the woods in West Deer Township on September 17.

"We want to find the answers, we want to fulfill everything and then put her body to rest, we know she's in a better place than we are but we want to find her," he said.

They're asking volunteers who join the search to dress for hiking because they plan to be in the woods.

Harbison’s family organized the search Saturday to cover a 5-mile radius that police mapped out. Ruedinger said Harbison’s body may be found in what might be a crime scene.

Ruedinger said searchers are also looking for her daughter’s motorcycle. She believes the motorcycle and Harbison’s body could be together in an effort “to make it look like an accident,” Ruedinger said.

Ruedinger said two cars filled with people were continuing to search for Harbison on Sunday, Oct. 9. She said she is uncertain right now if the family will organize any more search efforts.

Having been touched by the sympathy of so many people Saturday, Ruedinger said she is now pursuing closure.

“Our prayer is we find Darlene's body, so we have some closure,” Ruedinger said. “We are doing our best.”

Her family and even strangers go out into new areas every day to search for Harbison.

[...]

"We're out traveling roads, the back roads, any kind of pull-off, any kind of hillside," said BH, Harbison's sister.

BH has a box full of maps and she highlights the locations they've searched.

"The area is so huge, we're only able to cover so much. We go out in the morning and come back in the evening," BH said.

... They started to search near Worthington, where Gibbs was from.

They brought fliers to gun shops and sportsmen's clubs to inform hunters. ATV and motorcycle groups have been looking too.

Now, the family is hoping someone can get a better look in the Allegheny River. They're trying to reach river search groups who could expand the search on the water.

RR said a search group already looked at the Tarentum Bridge, but he hopes someone can search around Allegheny River Lock and Dam 9 because Harbison likes to fish there.

[...]

Allegheny County police said there are no updates on Harbison's case.

Fishing around that Lock and Dam is super dangerous. It’s unmanned and people do fish from the apron, but we see media on behalf of COE warning against it. I sure hope she didn’t go in.

Here is one article about the dangers and a video of the Lock and Dam 9 area.

Officials are asking for anyone with ATVs or off-road vehicles to come out and help. Volunteers will meet at the American Legion at 754 North Pike Road in Cabot at 9 a.m. Saturday to search for Harbison again, as Sunday marks two months since she was last seen alive. [snip] "We're moving further out more towards his area where we believe the individual who did this is from," said Ruediger. "He spent a lot of time up there, his family is up there so we're headed that direction."

Her family said they aren't giving up until they find her.

"Faith and prayers is what gets me through it, all the people who say they are praying for us and the family, that's the only thing I have to hang on to," said CR, Harbinson's mother.

If you know anything about her disappearance, you're asked to call the Allegheny County Police Tip Line at 1-833-255-8477.

“We have five different townships that we’re going to try and cover today. Each of those townships is broken down to eight or nine areas,” Harbison’s sister, Betty Hoffman, said.

Hoffmann gave instructions to almost a hundred volunteers comprising family, friends and strangers before they went out to search for her sister, who has been missing since Sept. 11.

[...]

The search, which was all on foot, began at the American Legion on North Pike Drive — and focused on an area where Harbison’s ex-boyfriend, Eric Gibbs, lived.

Searchers were also told to be on the lookout for Harbison’s Suzuki motorcycle.

... Now the family is asking hunters to keep an eye out in heavily wooded areas as well.

"Look for fresh piles of leaves. Look for a culvert or a fresh grave or a tarp, it may be blue or it may be silver," said Robert Ruediger, Darlene's brother. "We are asking hunters to be on the lookout for anything out of the ordinary."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Allegheny County Police tip line at 833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
