"Jones said his disappearance is not considered suspicious"

Huh? Did something change in the last few days?

    https://local.nixle.com/alert/5588293/

    "Alert Details

    Severity:

Severe - Significant threat to life or property

    Urgency:

Immediate - Responsive action SHOULD be taken immediately

    Certainty:

Observed - Determined to have occurred or to be ongoing

    Category:

    General emergency and public safety

    Event:

    Missing Person"

    Nothing suspicious though?

I don't think you are wrong in thinking this, Scarlet. I wish you knew one of the people LE has allegedly questioned so that you could feel more at ease that something is being done. I highly doubt it would be put out there that LE has questioned people if they had not. But, since you are in the "friend" loop and no one knows what in the heck LE are talking about is irritating, if not worrisome.

I do want to say to you and any other of his friends who are considering searching for him...check in with LE first. Don't go poking around by yourself...ever! You wouldn't want to stumble into trouble or disturb any evidence (if there is any).

I'm really hoping he's okay wherever he is and that he reaches out to someone soon.

When I look at the nixle it doesn't come up as expired. Glitch?

The original included the NJ Park Police and indicated that John was an "at risk" person. Yes, TMAN, why the change?

I can see both. When I'm viewing the Mobile version, I don't see the message. But when I click the "View Full Size" text at the bottom of the page, the alert loads differently, with the yellow "Expired" text.

lol, I'm telling you the truth. Maybe it's because I'm on my phone and not the computer. Let me check.

ETA: Now I can see the yellow alert saying "message expired". I'm not sure in nixle-lingo what this means. Shall we start guessing?!

I might be reading too much into inane things, but figured I would mention them.

In the end, we want this guy to be found, and we can be wrong on all our theories and observations. :)

I wonder why an alert would expire? Could the status of the missing person have changed for some reason? Is it just standard practice for an alert to expire in so many hours? I would think it is a good thing, if anything.

Any ideas as to what it means, Pink? Usually if a person has been located, Nixle sends out a notification saying that the person has been found. I can see an "expiration" on something like, let's say, a tornado warning or possible flooding. But a missing person? Maybe it's a clerical error? Maybe all Nixle notifications have expiration times but, if it's a missing person it has to be manually extended? Just throwing some ideas out there.

    Thoughts anyone?

ETA: It took me a while to type that but it seems like you and I, TMAN, are on the same wave length.

What exactly is Nixle? Is that just a site where the authorities put out alerts on missing persons?

I really don't know. So that article comes out and his family as in nephew and cousins are telling me the article is wrong. That the article is giving false info. This is very concerning and I am at a loss. Maybe the article is not wrong and the police know where is or someone is in contact with him? Why would the family lie to me unless they are saying this from denial. I believe his family and am kind of pissed if this reporter is posting an article with false information.

I just sent a tweet to https://twitter.com/NJSP asking about Nixle showing the alert "expired" and whether John has been located. I will lwt you know if they respond.

The NJ.com article only states that it is an active investigation, that they don't consider it suspicious, and that LE has spoken to people who MAY have been in contact with John.

    Let's break it down...

Active investigation - that's good, right? Shows they are still looking for John and they haven't closed the book.

Not considered suspicious - that's good, right? Means they haven't found anything to suggest foul play (no blood, signs of struggle, etc). This leaves open the possibility of suicide, skipping town willingly or under mental duress.

Possible contact - that's good, right? Means, if true, he's still alive. If true, then the question becomes: where?

If all of the above is true, it's all better than the alternatives, IMO. It doesn't mean that he's going to be any easier to find, however. I can't imagine what the next steps should be, Scarlet. I wish I could help more.

I wonder if the NJSP are going to have an update tomorrow since the message is expired? I am not going to believe that article until I see an update from police. I don't care if an officer was quoted in the article, I want a better source.

New Jersey State Police Capt. said Monday that authorities are still looking for Philadelphia resident John Kohlbecker. A Facebook post from state police said Kohlbecker, who was previously described as "at-risk," was last seen at the ShopRite in Bridgeton on Thursday, Feb. 11 at about 2:30 p.m.

"It is an active investigation," said Jones, who declined to specify what type of search efforts were ongoing as methods have changed from day to day.

Kohlbecker's white 1995 Toyota Camry was found in Wharton State Forest on Sunday at the Green Bank State Forest Station.
