PA - Lindy Sue Biechler, 19, fatally stabbed, Lancaster County, 5 Dec 1975 *arrest in 2022*

Has there been news about how likely it is that Sinopoli wrote the letter to the police about a year after she was murdered and shortly after her gravestone was vandalized? I'm wondering how accurate some of the details in that letter were... Like, is Sinopoli 5'10"? Did he live in the suburbs on Lancaster's west end? Did he ever have a drug related arrest?

My interest in the case is mostly due to some similarities with the case of Elizabeth Clark who was brutally beaten in her Millersville home on April 7th, 1978 and died a couple days later.
Elizabeth’s case was closed long ago, sadly she will never get justice. There was a lot of differences in the two cases.

That clipping seems more like an opinion piece than reporting.

FWIW, I happen to know the investigation into Beth Clark's murder continued for some time (years) after the trial. Hopefully, it is still on the radar of Lancaster's cold case unit.

They really should look into Beth Clark's case. The worst that can happen is that Sinopoli is ruled out.

Personally I think they should look at cold cases within an hour zone of Lancaster that fit the victim profile of young, attractive females who were either abducted or murdered in their homes.

''The man charged with homicide in Lancaster County’s oldest cold case is scheduled to appear in court Thursday as his criminal case begins moving forward.

David Vincent Sinopoli, 68, will appear before District Judge Joshua Keller for a preliminary hearing, where prosecutors have to present evidence that a crime was committed and that Sinopoli is probably responsible.

If they do, the case will move to county court to be heard by a judge or jury.''

28 October (Upper Court) Formal Arraignment

From your link:

Philip Biechler, Biechler's husband at the time of the murder, attended the hearing with several other people. He also declined comment. He left the courtroom silently as a person with him held an arm around his shoulders.

How nice that her husband attended the arraignment. He seems like a really nice guy.

Sinopoli is scheduled for a formal arraignment Oct. 28 in the Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas.

From link..
''Investigators used DNA found in blood and semen at the scene to determine the suspect had to have been a descendant of an immigrant from Gasperina, Italy. One-by-one, they eliminated Lancaster County suspects from the pool before stumbling across Sinopoli, who lived in the same building as the victim at the time of the murder, according to prosecutors.''

''During Thursday’s preliminary hearing, prosecutors presented ‘Exhibit B’, which demonstrated that the DNA collected from Biechler’s clothing is 3.9 quadrillion times more probable to have originated from Sinopoli and one unknown person than from two unknown people, they said.''

''During preliminary hearings, all prosecutors need to prove is that a crime occurred and that the defendant is most likely the person who committed the crime.''

Lindy Sue Little (later Biechler), left, and David V. Sinopoli appear circled in their respective homeroom photos from the 1970-71 McCaskey High School yearbook. Sinopoli, now 69, is charged with killing Lindy Sue in 1975.

"After several decades, those who knew them in the 1960s and early ’70s are either dead or reluctant to talk to the press. But every life leaves a paper trail, and in the cases of Sinopoli and Biechler, those trails intersect in at least two places: McCaskey High School during the 1970-71 school year and 104 Kloss Drive, a four-unit building at Spring Manor Apartments, in 1974 and ’75."

What a relief that he decided to admit his guilt instead of going through a trial next month. It’s doubtful he will ever finish his sentence. As with all these cases, you just ask why?
