Investigators strongly believe the killing was committed by someone Benson knew. There was no sign of forced entry, and the killer had a key to lock the door on the way out. A source tells Action News that a person of interest is being questioned in the murder, but they are not yet ready to make an arrest. Residents say the victim recently moved into the complex. I think the killer lives in the same complex and is familiar with all the apts. Probably wrong. JMO.

“The homicide scene was indicative of somebody who was really, really angry,” Chitwood said. “This was personal. We believe it was a crime of passion and hatred. There were [derogatory] messages written on the wall.”


The superintendent declined to divulge the specific words.

“It was a vicious fight,” Chitwood said. “There was blood on the walls and feces on the floor. He beat her and killed her and dragged her into the bathroom. It looks like she fought for her life and lost."


He continued, “This was a brutal, sadistic killing because of the messages, the body and the crime scene. It’s tragic.”

Has there been any updates on this case? I don't live far from where this happened and I've heard nothing. This woman's death didn't seem to stay in the news that long. It's not huge town this should be a big deal.
