KERSEY — “We have one hell of a landslide,” emergency responders were heard saying over the Elk County 911 scanner station.

“I believe there were about five employees who were working in this area when the incident occurred,” state police public information officer Trooper Bruce Morris said hours after the event. “Out of the five employees, four of them were able to either get out of the way of what was going on or were rescued by other people who were there.”

The company reported on its website receiving one violation "over the last few years."


But 6 News found at least four violations handed down by state and federal environmental agencies in the past 15 months.

Officials said the missing man was operating a large compacting machine and they believe that he is still inside it.

I am hoping the steel cab of the compacter may have saved him from being crushed or smothered by the landslide. How sad.

Officials report locating device the size of compactor missing man was operating

KERSEY – Emergency personnel have located a device they said is the approximate size of the trash compactor a missing man was operating during the landslide at Greentree Landfill, a company spokesman said Friday morning.

ETA: Just to clarify, in case you don't read the whole article, they have "located" the device using ground-penetrating radar and are digging in that area. They have not physically located (unburied) the device yet.

Prayers that they are able to safely locate the compactor and this man is miraculously alive and without serious injury.
