I was channel surfing and came across this. I haven't watched enough of it to comment. It's on TLC starting @ 8 pm (now) and will show again @ 10 pm tonight.

Thoughts for reading over the morning coffee.

    Happy Trails,
    FF

thanks for that link, I watched it there too.

those fake smiles are creepy. I dont get that pageant thing at all. I think grown women look gross with that much makeup, let alone little tiny girls with bleached hair and a pound of lipgloss!

Yeah I saw it on TLC as well here in Canada. I remember the original when Brooke won the overall title. One of the girls dropped out at age 7 wasn't it?

Now they get "flippers" is that they called them, LOL. False teeth that slip over their own iow.

    Hi, FF,
    I need some clarification.

Are you referring to the program " Painted Babies" or a new follow up program?
Most of us who are long term Ramsey case followers have seen the original Painted Babies. In fact, some of us have thought that JonBenet's pageant expertise starting at age 3 and her subsequent murder might have been the impetus for the series.

If this is a new follow up, I would not expect the clips to already be on You Tube.

You can find the series on YouTube. I found it icky that a child was singing "hey big spender, spend some time with me" in the opening. Ick...

Painted babies now take on a whole new aspect: what is big on the child pageant scene, now, is having your child's image touched up with false teeth, false eyes, false hair and such (all photoshopped), then those photoshopped images are used for judging. Seriously... google pageant retouching for children.

I feel sorry for these little girls if they grow up to be less than gorgeous. They have a lot to live up to in their mother's eyes. I can imagine the disappointment they will be met with if that happens; unconditional love goes out the window when a tiara is at stake, I guess.

    Seeking Jana,

This is Painted Babies part 2. I have been following this case since it happened reading BNF, Forums for Justice and Web (one B) slueths. I am a Boulder resident totally disgusted w/ local politics.

I have been a Boulder County Victims Advocate and would like to B-T-H slap the air heads that showed up at the Ramseys. The class I was in reenforced not contaminating the scene no matter what the first impression was.

I couldn't bring myself to watch it all- what was she having "ground down"? A tooth?
This sounds mean, so please try to see what I am really saying-
Almost to a woman- all the pageant moms were unattractive, many were very overweight. I feel that the validation of their daughters' beauty (that is, to WIN a beauty contest) has as its root the projection of the mothers' desire to be seen as beautiful. By producing a "certified beauty" (i.e. a winner of a beauty contest) the mother is seen as being capable of producing a beautiful child. And that means SHE is also beautiful (or must have been at one time).
It also seems to me that many of these girls' mothers/families are in a lower socioeconomic demographic. I think PR was an exception in that she had plenty of money to spend on the pageant costumes, hair, lessons, etc. Those frilly dresses can cost over $1000 new. Those other moms must really struggle with the expenses of the pageant system. The entry fees and hotel rooms and meals cost money, too. Travel expenses, etc. It was like seeing people gambling in a casino. You KNOW they don't have the money- they are trying for that big win. I get the same feelings when I see those pageant moms.

    a tooth cover,for missing teeth.it's called a slipper.(that was in part 2).

..I was thinking the same thing !! No,it's not mean, just a reasonable explanation.
good thought.I felt bad for the girls, there seemed to be so much pressure on them to win, that they probably felt like losers when they didn't...like the moms couldn't just enjoy spending time w them...it had to be all about winning.very sad.
I got the feeling, like a lot of things kids are pressured to do...this one was all about the parents.(and their ego's).
that one grandma even said something like, 'she's going to compete b/c grandma needs a car!'
there's a video where some of them are now 17..(or so,I don't know how old it is).they look very ordinary now.

They are also wagering any future college fund money they might have thoughtfully put away for these girls. One mother said that the cost of the dress etc. for the competition cost more than the FIRST PRIZE paid out?

I need to pick up my marbles from the floor.

It was sad, really. I saw the follow-up video on YouTube on the two "rivals" at 17. Cute, but not the world-class beauties that could use it as a ticket to fame and fortune. I always think how disappointed PR would have been if JBR had grown up to be "ordinary". And how saw that would have been for JBR to feel like she was less worthy of her mother's love and attention because she was no longer winning pageants.
I sometimes feel that PR was glad (in a kind of twisted way) that, with JBR dead, she would never have to deal with the fact that she may not have grown up to be the "Miss America" or beauty queen PR expected her to be.

me too,Deedee.she was immortalized forever as a little beauty queen, and I sometimes wonder if there was intent to kill in the very first actions,IOW,it didn't all just start as an accident. Not that it was planned, but just a very instantaneous rage inflicted with intent to kill.
